So they are only dangerous if owned by a crook?
In this case I would say yes. If they are outlawed, the one's that will follow the ban are the "responsible" owners, the one's that raise and socialize them to be good canine citizens.
The one's that continue to perpetuate the stereotype of the nasty, viscious, killer Pitbulls will be the one's that will defy the ban.
Their dogs will continue to be dangerous to both people and other dogs.
Every dog has the capacity to be dangerous, fortunately not every dog can do the damage that Pits, Rottweilers, Dobermans, and German Shepherds (to name a few), can do. A responsible owner of any of these breeds knows what these dogs are capable of and structures their life and the life of their dog to minimize the dangers to other people and animals. They have raised their pets to be socially acceptable and safe to be around.
Most dog bites, attacks, can be traced back to how the dogs are raised. Chained dogs, abused dogs, starved dogs, neglected dogs, dogs that are not respected for the damage they can do, THESE are the dogs that are dangerous.
The Pits that are owned and raised by responsible people, have every right to live with their families and to live a life free of the threat of Breed Specific Legislation.
Today it's the Pits and Rottweilers being banned, next month it could be your breed. (OKay, maybe not a yorkie or other ankle biter although personally I don't see much use in these dogs, BUT, I would never support anyone trying to take away your right to own the dog of your choice.)
