Good morning all!! I gotta ?? to post. My sig. other wants to take me out for dinner this evening since he had to work last night. Can I get some ideas from you all where a good seafood restaurant is in southern maryland. I was thiinking Rod n Reel.. We are in Calvert and do not really want to stray too far from home. Oh and by chance, even if out of county, does anyone know of a restaurant that has crabs this time of year?

We went to Rod and Reel last night and were very impressed. We have not been there in years, they seemed over priced and we were not too impressed. However, it seems they have decided to change with the economy, etc. and we had a very good meal, reasonably priced and excellent, friendly service. They have a lobster special for $18.95. 1 1/4 pound Maine lobster with roasted potatoes and vegetables. Have fun!

Yes, I worked there as a bartender For the special functions some years ago and at Stinnetts when that was opened. That is where we decided on going!! I heard they have improved! That lobster dinner sounds perfect! Thank you!!!

Hey there,
Jake and Al's has really good Crab cakes as well! You should try them out too! They are reasonable in price as well with their crabcakes! With hard shell crabs you might want to try Calypso Bay in Solomons. They have crabs but I am not to sure about this time of the year.
I think you would like Jake and Al's crabcakes alot. If you like rockfish we have stuffed rockfish as a special and stuffed lobster tails. OMG I had the stuffed lobster tail and it was worth every penny I spent for it!! I personally don't eat rockfish, but I can tell you from what I hear it is really good. The kitchen gets tons of compliments on their stuffed rockfish!
Yeah come in one day!

For seafood I would recommend Jerry's or Stoney's. I'n not to fond of the rod n reel, but they have a great weekend brunch. IMO, Jake and Al's is not a place I would recommend but everyone has different tastes.Solomons Pier is nice.

Stoneys owners bought that out, so I can imagine it's good food. I do like Stoneys (Broomes Island). But decided on the newer reviews of Rod n reel to try it agai. The Brunch was always good.

I love Jerrys..consistently good food AND service.

Service at Stoney's has always been spotty. Crabcakes are good but certainly not what they used to be a few years ago. I like the atmosphere outside at the Broomes Island location, so that makes up for okay food and not so good service. The Pier is good in that regard as well.

Jake & Al's is good when it's on but I've had a few really bad experiences there although last weekend was very good. I don't understand that because Adams is consistently good food and service. What works at one place should work at the other.

Rod N Reel has been good and bad over the 40 some years I've been going there. These days, food is okay but I don't like the crowds...way too touristy.

Stoneys also bought out the KingFisher, and the fare is pretty much the same as the Pier, yet not quite the same. I know the margaritas at the KingFisher pack more of a punch..... :otter:

I love how Jerry comes to every table and sits down and talks. It reminds me of the old days in Calvert County.

Your right about the spotty service at Stoney's. Remember how big the crab ckes used to be. They do make great drinks though and sitting outside is very nice in the summer.

Does anyone remember Mick's Quail Inn in Indian Head. They had wonderful crab cakes, the size of the old Stoney's cakes. I miss that place.

I think Jake and al's went thru what many places go thru is finding that right chemistry. Got to remember Adams is a very well establish place. Takes time to develop a strong staff! I think he is acheving that! Jake and Al's has some good ppl in their kitchen.
