Been playing with it all day, seems fast.
So which one comes out smelling like roses? The beta of Internet Explorer 8, released just last week.
When playing a YouTube video, Firefox 3 took up 95 percent of the CPU time on a three-year old laptop running Windows XP.
Chrome came in at 60 percent -- still too much. Especially since Google owns YouTube! You'd think it could make its browser work well with that site in particular.
Internet Explorer barely broke a sweat, taking up just a few percent.

Review: Google's Chrome needs more polish - CNN.com
What is funny (strange - not ha ha) is that lots of non-Microsoft stuff runs much slower on recent MS OSs and yet the actual program is not hogging CPU or memory and System Idle Process is using most CPU.
I have Java code that run 43 times faster on Fedora 8 Linux than on Windows XP.
Makes me wonder if Microsoft isn't doing something to purposely slow down competing products on MS OSs.
Interesting concept. However, I'm sure competitors would have figured that out by now during their own testing and filed anti-trust suits.
The other part of that is that portions of the MS OS are still proprietary, and "outsiders" just can't take best advantage of the code.
I've been using it since Launch, and it puts Firefox to shame. (atleast to me)
I recommend visiting Google Chrome - Index and view what they have to offer as far as plugins and all that other stuff.![]()
So, I downloaded the latest version of CCleaner, which I've been using for years, and it came with Google Chrome included. Since I didn't see anywhere to not allow GC, I figured "no way would they microsoft me that way." Wrong.
Now normally, companies that microsoft (auto download with no opt out feature) me really pizz me off, and I immediate stop doing business with them. I also biatch them out, for all the good it does.
But, I figured, what the heck; google's not my favorite, but let's try it out. So far, it seems faster than IE8. It's more bare-bones than IE8, but that's okay. Time will tell if it works for me or not. I suddenly realized that some setting in IE8 is why I haven't had spell check, because it's suddenly back with Chrome.
