Driving here is a bit of a challenge. Lots of lights on the main roads. Add in an older population plus a few random bicycles and now a short commute takes quite a long time.

Everything is an hour away. Punta Gorda - an hour away. Publix - an hour away. Five miles to Yoders - yep, took us an hour to get there.

Yes, and it was very good. I had fried chicken (of course); Monello and Randy had the beef noodles. They offer half portions, which is a good thing because the regular size is YOOOGE, and they have like 8 million different kinds of pie.

Their menu looked awesome! Could eat there everyday!

Lots of Amish & Mennonite down this way. I was surprised to see them so visible here. Local restaurant claims there is a population of 3K and it doubles during tourist season.

Further south, I think it's in Plant City, FL, there's a place called Knau's Berry Farm. It's a Mennonite farm - they hand inspect every strawberry - and the ones not good enough to sell (by their exacting standards) go into the best strawberry shakes you'll ever have. The berries that are good enough to sell and expensive and I swear (though the years since I've been there may have exaggerated the size) are fist sized perfect strawberry tasting strawberries. If you get there, you'll remember it - I have for 30 plus years. http://www.redlandriot.com/Knaus.html

Florida definitely has an odor, so far everywhere we've gone in the state. Monello says it's the low tide smell but I still couldn't place it....until you just said "rotting vegetation". That's exactly what it is. I don't find it offensive and it's not terribly pervasive, sometimes stronger than others but mostly just a low level odor.

I thought its the smell of old people ;-)
