Griffins BBQ Mechanicsville

I did not see a review of this place. They recently just opened an actual location in Mechanicsville, they previously were operating out of a food truck/trailer.

Our office went for lunch today, here is our review:

Pulled Pork Sandwich- it was pretty good. However it was already tossed w/ their sauce (I prefer to add sauce to mine) So it made the bun slightly soggy. Their sauce was very sweet. The meat was tender & had good flavor. 6 1/2 out of 10

French Fries- Hot & crispy, but not homemade/boardwalk fries they were regular crinkle cut ore idas. 5 out of 10

Potato Salad- Extremely mustardy. Like it was NEON yellow that is how much mustard is in it. It kinda tasted like it was pre made & that they had added mustard, celery, onion to give it a more homemade taste. On the positive it wasnt sweet like a lot of potato salads are. 5 out of 10

Homemade BBQ Sauce Spicy- this did not taste like BBQ sauce at all. It tasted like purely hot sauce. It was extremely hot. So hot my mouth is still burning, and that was just sticking my finger in to taste before putting on my sammy. (thank god I tasted it first ) So if you like hot hot hot this is the bbq sauce for you. One of the gals here is a hot sauce nut, even she said it was hot. But she said it also had a sweet flavor to it.

They were also out of some items we had wanted to try:

Everything sliced (pork beef)
Corn Bread
Bakes Beans

The prices were quite cheaper than a lot of other local BBQ joints. But the portion sizes reflected that, as well as using frozen fries vs fresh cut fries. They was one server in at the time and she seemed a little overwhelmed but was still very friendly.

We would defintely go back to give the sliced items & Ribs a try. Not sure I personally would order the pulled pork again. But one of the other gals here said she would & that she really liked how the sauce was sweet tasting.

This place is 100000000x's better than Graves Boys BBQ which was in Mechanicsville for a while. However they are not as good as Johnny Boys Ribs, Randy's Ribs, or Sarticks Ribs.

So, was the pullled pork a 5 or the fries, or both?

6 1/2

One of the girls gave it a 7 - 7 1/2 & the rest of us (who dont like our pulled pork to be tossed w/ sauce) gave it a 6. So I averaged it out to a 6 1/2.

I will say if I am going to get BBQ I normally go to Randy's, Johnny Boys, or Sarticks...because they are the best & make their sides in house which I like. So I am pretty critical when reviewing BBQ joints.

That's pretty sad that they just open and don't have sliced (pork beef), Corn Bread
or Baked Beans.

I stopped there last year at their trailer and they didn't have sliced sammiches. :boo:

Hmmm interesting. I just figured it had to do w/ them just opening up. Thats no gouda if they dont have sliced stuff. It was on their menu though.

As for Griffin's, they had to have just opened today!! Can't remember if it was yesterday evening or the day before on my way home from work, I saw them out there cleaning the windows and getting ready. Before that, there was plywood still over the windows. Maybe they just pushed the opening up a little to get a feel for how things would run? Maybe by the weekend they will get all of their supplies in and be up and running at full speed.

Lefty's ....ahhh no,ribs overcooked and sides way to much vineger

Johnny Boys .....has gotten way over priced and the food and sauce are just OK

Randy's has gotten much better over the years ribs done to perfection and the sides are perfect, not cheap but worth the money.:coffee:

Griffins

Went today for lunch. Waitress literally threw one menu for 2 of us. Not very professional menu is not either. Many spelling errors. Also menu lists 1/2 chicken (white meat a little extra) hows that work? Is a half of chicken not usually half white and dark meat? Didnt matter no chicken anyway! Paid for our drinks and left. Went to Sonny's on 236 much less expensive and much better than the food I have had from Griffins trailer.
