It's good to see production car racing. It just sad that NASCAR is no longer sanctions stock car racing

Hmmm, not really production cars, Aps, other than the body in white being used. Those cars have very few stock parts left. All the body seams that are normally tack welded are fully welded, drivetrain and suspension are full race stuff. Still the best racing on earth, though.

They start as production cars. That's a lot more than you can say about American "stock" car racing.
I can buy a Subaru Impreza or Ford Focus but I can't walk into a show room and buy anything similar to what raced in NASCAR yesterday

I get your point, and do wish NASCAR would go back to that myself. SCCA is really the only place to find that sort of racing anymore.

Most of the newer muscle can top well over 150, The new SRT versions of the 300, Challenger and Charger can hit I think 175. Older ones were only good for 172 or so.

Assume

we have a guy her at work, has a burnt orange Hemi Challenger (huge Mopar guy, wishes for a Cuda (really a die hard Plymouth guy)

and then some young poser his momma bought him a Camero - but it is a striped down model

Assume?

The Hemi comes in three flavors. the 5.7 (2005 present) and the 6.1 (2006-2010) and 6.4 (2011 and on). The 5.7 cars are good for about 150, speed limited due to stock tires limitations, while the 6.1/6.4 cars are aero limited, since they come with tires rated to 186 or so. Hence the differing top ends, with the 64.s greater power, it can go a bit faster.

Good way to show folks how the power required to raise top speed jumps, the 6.4 has a +50hp bump, but only gains about 2-4mph of top end.
