GSD food

Taste of the Wild is great and my dogs do really well on it. Not to mention that it's more cost effective than any of the natural or grain free food you will find at money grubbing Petco.

Let me add to this by saying that just because it's costs you more doesn't mean it's always better food. I hear people say all the time, "well MY dogs food cost me THIS much money" Well that's great and all to be able to brag about how much money you spend on food, but really, who cares? You should be doing research on nutrition and find out what will work best for your specific dogs needs. Not saying well Petco charges the equivalent of half a car payment for a bag of food, so it MUST be the best. (Sorry about the rant, it's just a peeve of mine) I hear Peppers Pet Pantry has some of the best prices around on dog food though. . . Just sayin. . .

We have played with our GSD's food due to allergies and they are doing well on Blue Buffalo - its a little pricy but between the itching and not eating we have found Royal Canin and Blue Buffalo to be the best for GSD breeds.

Interesting you should say 'itching.' My 5-month-old GSD has been itching like crazy and we can't seem to find the cause. We're just switching from Origen to Innova in hopes that will yield some relief. Vet said use Benadryl for itching, and while it somewhat relieves the itching, it seems to make her a bit hyper. Have you pinpointed the cause for your GSD's itching?

Is he blowing out his coat? GSDs require a lot of grooming (had GSDs for years). When they start shedding, they get really itchy and will scratch to get the hair out.

I was just in peppers yesterday and yes there prices are a lot better than petcos plus petco i don't think carries taste of the wild. I feed my dog grainfree and shes got really bad allergies. My vet reccomended that and she also recommended orijen or california naturals (am i saying it correctly?) there grainfree. Right now bruno doesn't seem to mind what she is on but down the line she will get sick of it and I will have to switch again when she decides she will no longer eat it.

I have also gone grainfree for treats too and hopefully i can get the locals to listen to me and feed her her grainfree treats and that is it so i don't have to deal with anymore stomach upsets as she has a sensitive stomach. I just spent 9 days getting up 2x during the middle of the night as she had diarrhea but the vet thinks it was a combination of her allergy meds that the other vet in the same office started her off on the regular dose of (she should have been started off on a lower dose and work up to the full amount) and her food allergies . We have switched things around and she seems to be doing pretty good today and I want to keep things this way.

She has a rash where the hair is thin... on the inside of the thighs and belly, but she scratches all over. This began about 6 weeks ago. I'll try daily Furminating and see if that yields any results.

Have your GSD's had a history of food allergies? If so, was it to chicken?

My GSDs never had any issues...I was lucky. Now.. my Boxers, well that's a different story.

Maybe she has dry skin. I swear by salmon oil or fish oil capsules ..one daily. My Boxers' coats are gorgeous.
