" DENVER - A gunman walked into a training center dormitory for young Christian missionaries in a Denver suburb early Sunday and opened fire, wounding at least four people.

The shooting happened at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Youth With a Mission center, Arvada Police spokeswoman Susan Medina said.

The extent of the injuries was not known, and the gunman was still at large Sunday morning.

Witnesses told police that the gunman was a white male, about 20 years old, wearing a dark jacket and a skull cap. He may have glasses or a beard."

 What makes you think it was a gun free zone?
Colorado law, with a few exceptions (that do not apply in this case) no firearms are allowed in schools, universities or seminaries. That includes open carry and concealed carry with a permit.

:yay: I thought you were implying that there was a gun ban or something.

I don't see this as relevant though. The chance of there being someone choosing to be armed in a place like this would still be low. It isn't like this was an inner city place where an incident like this could be anticipated.

There was no known threat that would have made the victims want to be armed. I doubt that they were unarmed because of the law, they were more likely unarmed because they saw no reason to be armed.

Sometimes shiat happens, and no gun ban or permissive carry law will change that.

Most CCW holders I have talked to don't think like that, they carry almost everywhere because as we all know, you never know where and when it'll happen.

I agree with you - the chances that people in a mission training center would be armed are pretty slim. I just saw where some people coming out of a church in Colorado Springs were shot and killed too. Another place I would not expect to find a lot of armed people. Some if this world has just lost its mind or so it seems IMO.

By the way, the law you are talking about applies to "a bona fide religious postsecondary educational institution."

This shooting was at a missionary training center, not a seminary. There are no Colorado laws in place that made this a gun free zone.

If that is true, then I stand corrected. Thank you for the research.

Colorado police seek clues to 2 attacks - Yahoo! News

The same guy hit a church 12 hours later. He killed 2 more people before...
A church with an armed security staff?

Yep! And last year the founder resigned for having a boy toy...

What CCW holders think about gun safety and how folks should act is laughable. I hate it when tragedy brings out the gun nuts; maybe the gal at the church should carry the armor-piercing rounds the NRA protects...

.

You'd be wrong. Those that are allowed to carry, normally carry all the time, where allowed.

it's better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it, as verified above..

When I went to church in NH, I knew at least 5 people in the congregation that carried.

What is laughable is your denial that the volunteer church member/CCW holder saved alot of lives when she responded with her personal carry gun and taking the bad guy before he did alot more damage.

I do not see where my post denied that the guard was a blessing; she was.
My take was re the gun lobby.
