I have a Honda Civic 2003, Manual only 81233 miles. I keep up with the regualr maintenence however, occasionally I am having trouble starting it in the mornings. I have a new battery, spark plugs look fine, engine rotates with trying to start, battery connections are good.

My husband has started it with no problems then later on the day when I go to start it it will choke and then start up. Could I have a possible leak in the intake manifold? computer malfuntion? fuel guage or sending unit malfuctioning?

Any suggestions/ideas would be appreciated. TIA

It could be many things, for instance faulty fuel injector pressure regulator, faulty choke float, faulty choke pulloff, faulty cold start valve, improperly functioning choke thermostat, faulty fuel pump relay, plugged or damaged PCV valve, fouled spark plugs, a combination of any of the above or something totally different. Pretty hard to tell for sure. Best bet is to take it to a shop.

Do you push the gas pedal down when you start it?? Or push it down and release it?

If it's fuel injected, you can dance on it and it won't do anything until the engine is running

I don't think that's 100% correct.

Don't remember what year it was, but it was a fuel injected Chevy Lumina.. bought after my Dodge Omni. I never had an issue with it, but the ex always had a hell of a time with it. Finally went out and watched her, and she started the Lumina the same way she started the Carbureted Omni.. Stomp on the gas pedal 3 or 4 times then turn the key to start. As soon as she stopped doing that, no more issues.

If one of your engine or fuel mangement sensors is failing it should set off your check engine light. Your fuel pump has an internal check valve that keeps fuel from draining back into your gas tank so that the fuel system stays charged under pressure until the next time you want to start the vehicle.
If it is faulty the system has to recharge before the car will start
The next time you start your Honda try turning the key to the "on" position for three seconds. Then turn it off. Repeat this three times before you actually try to start the car. If the car starts normally after this proceedure you have a faulty check valve in the fuel pump. Most fuel pumps are not serviceable in todays vehicles, and the fuel pump will have to be replaced to cure this problem ($400.00 to $700.00).
This condition will not affect the way the car runs once it is started and you can live with it without replacing the fuel pump if you remember to turn the switch on 2 or 3 times before starting the vehicle.
Hope this helps.

will try it tommorrow.
