How the heck do you get a card for that when she has just had a stroke and can't even talk? "Hope your day is filled with joy" just does not work.

When my mom was in hospice, she had her last Mother's day. It was the absolute hardest greeting card I ever had to buy. Just tell her you love her & give her a big hug and tell her happy birthday.

Maybe bring her a bouquet of flowers.

I would either skip the card and just do flowers or go to target and get a beatiful Papyrus card that is blank inside and write your own message. "Happy Birthday. I Love You" would make my mom very happy, and some flowers might brighten her room.

Yep, I do that. Very hard to see her like this though, breaks my heart. You all should consider long term health care. Medicare pays nothing for nursing homes after 20 days. Me? I hope I have the strength to pull out a gun if this ever happens to me. She already had arthritis so bad I doubt she could have. I think she would rather be gone though.

My mom was in ICU for 2 weeks last spring, and rehab for months. We didn't think she was going to make it. Doc said she probably wouldn't last a year. Having been thru that, I know where you are. I have a pact with my friend to take each other out if we are ever in a non-recoverable state.
