Bring cash so the LW won't know how much you spend.I've got to go to NAPA tomorrow to pick up some parts....against my better judgement (Ha!...like I ever had any of that) I've got to stop by HF and check it out.

No worries. He uses the company account.Bring cash so the LW won't know how much you spend.
Shoot...we don't have any issues in that area. She just went out and bought this for herself...me dropping a few hundred at HF isn't even on her radar. ;-)Bring cash so the LW won't know how much you spend.

Inside joke. SGI and I, both suffering terminal cases of "engineer's disease", which often manifests itself as a bad case of "hell, I can fix that myself", have spent ridiculous amounts of time trying to make a small/cheap/throw-it-away-and-buy-a-new-one electric fan to run properly. So far the fan has won every round.Methinks you both missed the jokeWhat if he was "only" buying fans?

In this case, I believe the sintered bronze bushings have lost their magic. Even after oiling, after a short while of continuous running ,the oil gums or or just goes away. For your consideration ...
Know exactly to what you are referring. Tired the same thing once before, on an older fan. Plastic used to hold the windings chipped and hard as a rock. The shaft bushings worn to the extend the fan rattles, vibrated at the high stetting from an up and down motion, or lateral motion, as the fan pushed air pulling the fan then bouncing back. Tired everything to make it quiet again. Cleaned, lubed, micro adjustments where possible, no joy. Even tried to find a used one of the same make and model on eBay, even if just to get the motor. Nope. It's not even made anymore since the old were made in a heavy duty way. But it's still usable, just not in a quiet setting. More for garage use now just to move the air. Though now, thinking about it, I might try packing in some water proof grease in those bushings to see if that'll quiet it down.
You've got a machine shop downstairs.... make a new one!In this case, I believe the sintered bronze bushings have lost their magic. Even after oiling, after a short while of continuous running ,the oil gums or or just goes away.
The mechanical engineering dpt has the problem well in hand. Gonna mount two of these on the fan cage, with a hose to each fan bearing. Each oil filling should last a few weeks and keep the fan quiet. You've got a machine shop downstairs.... make a new one!
Trying to get the old fart that's our machinist to do anything is like pulling teeth. You've got a machine shop downstairs.... make a new one!
Maybe that's why he still has all his teeth....Trying to get the old fart that's our machinist to do anything is like pulling teeth.
