My daughter has a 16 YEAR OLD FRIEND who got one for her birthday last month.

I certainly hope it wa only paid for last month,m and not actually received, since the only ones avaialbe them were like the one pictured, the SRT-8 variant, with 425hp, and WAY more car than %99.99 of all 16yos on the planet can safely handle, even with the advanced drivers aids like BAS, ESP, ESP, and TCS.

MouseBaby, I hear ya:) The Charger does look meaner. Not more classic muscle, perhaps, but more intimidating, for sure........

As for how they ride, it supposed to a lot like the Charger/300C, but more softly sprung, a little bit, to give a more classic feel to the handling. A lot of how it feels is going to depend on two main things. Your own perceptions of speed and handling, and which one you get. Meaing if your coming out of a 5 year old Hyundai, any of them will feel like rockets on rails.

Last years BMW 3 series? Then you'll need the 5.7 to break even on power, and it will feel like a tank on marsmallows ridewise:)

I have had mine over 100mph and that baby is like floating on a cloud! I LOVE this car. Mine has the 5.7 in it. This is one bad azz car no matter how you slice it!

See, I havent driven the a 5.7 Charger yet, although I keep meaning to take one for a test drive. I do know its more softly sprung than mine, and sits 1/2 inch higher, but thats all I know. I wont say how fast Ive had mine, which is the one above on the left, but it never feels soft at any speed I have achieved. But its not suposed to:) I know Ive had ones like mine to +120 on a road course, and cornered at +90, and its always firm.

The cornering ability is due mostly to the Electronic Stability Control which keeps the vehicle from losing control unless you're pushing it beyond it's limitations. The weight distibution is the other part as it is almost perfect on the car with something like 51.9% in the front and the rest in the back.

Just to let you know, many people that have purchased the new Dodge Challenger SRT-8 have paid a minimum of $5K over MSRP. I've already heard that the "R/T" model with the 5.7 Hemi will have a bump to the MSRP also, but my sources (I use to work at a Dodge franchise) haven't verified that yet.

ESP just keeps you from spinning out when you take a corner too fast, if yaw rate to steering angle exceeds parameters. Taps one or more brakes, chops throttle, can even downshift if needed.

It doesnt make the cornering better, just safer. Except I suppose you feel more empowered to seek out the limits when you know its there to help if you stray over the line a bit.

One thing I find odd is that people wont explore ESP, or the other features. I recommend anyone with this sort of system play a little in an empty parking lot, at slow speeds, se what it does, how it react, when it intervenes, so, come crunch time, you know.

I know a lot of folks paid markups on the SRT Challengers, silly, with 6400 of them made. Havent seen the MSRP for the lesser models yet, but the folks over at challengertalk.com might know.

Hey, Mv, if you want to see a normal one, not the SRT-8, Park has a dark blue R/T, the normal Hemi, sticker with 1K markup was 31K, I think.

Might not be there long , there was a guy having them look over his V6 Magnum for trade, appeared to me. I looked it over, wished that they'd offered that blue back when I got my car, then left.

Also, PF Dodge looked to have one also, I saw on my way back from the dentist, but I didnt swing through there.

That was my point, last month, the only ones on any dealer lot were the 6.1 liter SRTs, the 2008 models, of which there were only 6400 made. Just now, the Challenger R/Ts with the 5.7s are showing up, the 2009s. Pretty soon, you'll see the SE with the V6, and the 09 SRTs showing up.

The six speed manual cars are just now leaving the plant, and the 09 SRT-8s are starting to be shipped also.

Mine is an R/T with 5.7 HEMI and has the ESP. Have not had to use that yet thank goodness but it is nice to know its there on snow days! :yay:

Do you have a Challenger?

Nope, a I have a Charger. Challenger not very practical with two kids. I did that two seat with car seats way back, no more of that:yahoo: When they grow up and move out, then maybe a two seater again.

(pull soapbox out, climbs up)

Mouse, you should really play with a little, as I said, in a wet parking lot, lots of room, low speeds, just enough so you get a feel for what it does feel like. ESP does much more than snow, it helps in other circumstances also. Hydroplaning, for instance, or emergency lane changes. Any time the car gets too far out of line, really. If youve never felt it, it be a little freaky, as the car moves in a way that youd never expect it to.

I also recommend a few maximum braking tests. Again, lots of room, not very high speeds. These cars have a thing called BAS, it predicts when you REALLY want %100 braking, and helps you get there and stay there.

Research (using those evil black boxes) found that most folks, in emegency braking situations, didnt ever really hit full braking, or, if they did, they didnt maintain it. So, BAS intervenes and gets to %100 and keeps it til you let off.
A full emergency braking maneuver can feel pretty scary, your thrown against the belts, pedal feels funny, people freaking out. Pre-knowledge of how the car feels leaves you free to keep driving.

In doubt? Throttle out!
They do seem like they are some nice cars. If I had a choice, however, I would rather have an SRT8 Charger. I would do bad things to have one.

I hope you are kidding. Although now-a-days, I don't have a single doubt in my mind that it actually happened. I'm glad my parents aren't that way.

Thanks for the advice, we will do that, I certainly don't want to be caught by surprise!
