OK, hang with me a minute...

The reserve has been known for awhile, right? It's ALOT of energy down there, 2 trillion barrels. The implication being that this one site could, eventually, at 10 million barrels a day, supply half our daily consumption for 500 years.

But you couldn't get at it for awhile, right? Hard and expensive to extract. Still, it's a trust fund, so to speak. If you are President, knowing that kind of supply is on the near horizon for your nation, man, that's a pretty big stick to have in your bag. That allows you some room to take some chances as any volatility you instigate need only be borne for the near term. You WON'T be shut out and dependent for very long.

But the day is coming, right? Technology is getting there and all you need is...a market that will pay the going rate.

So, the famous Cheney/Energy guys policy meeting at the beginning of 2001 was all about long term supply US energy needs. This much is fact.

Suppose someone said "You know, within the next decade we will probably be able to start getting 3 million barrels a day our of Colorado, ramping up to perhaps 10 but it's gonna need to be $30-40 a barrel in today's dollars."

So, we went to war in Iraq knowing it would cause economic disruption at home and potential long term hostility and high oil prices. It raised oil prices which now make Colorado feasible and in the mean time, Westernization of the middle East is enhanced. And we have our long term energy solution and stabilizing force.

Brilliant!

About 1/4 through the article, I realized that this was an advertisement. the real kicker is that "The Oil Report" is $199 for 12 issues :shocking:. But, oh wait! They'll slash the cost by 50%, so you only pay $99/year :coffee: Oh, ok.

What about Cuba's deal to let China and Russia drill in the Florida Straits while we do nothing out there? How is it in our interest to let someone else tap into reserves that we could be tapping?
