It's the sole jurisdiction of the States to say who can and cannot marry. This is why Bush keeps pushing for an amendment, becuase without it, he can't do anything.

The govt. HAS to define marriage (and unions) to some extent. Otherwise, I would "marry" my cat tomorrow just to change my IRS filing status.

I don’t know about others, but for me, the bitterness of paying taxes at a higher rate is somewhat offset by the unmitigated joy of being single.
