Will he? No
Should he? Yes

But man we have so many other issues to go along with QB posistion. We just suck all the way around as a team.

...no he will not.

Gibbs has stood by Mark every step of the way and nothing, NOTHING has changed in Mark's performance to justify benching him. Mark connected on the one deep ball yesterday. He made plenty of the little shorties and screens he is asked to do. He is doing the same job now that he did since he got here. Heck, the one pick was only his fourth this year; not bad for 9 games.

The line has not been great. The defense is in a horrible rut with so few takeaways and giving up so many big plays. Portis has been hurt. Point is, Mark, if we are to argue he is playing clearly at a lower level than before, has too much company to be singled out. Especially by Gibbs.

As long as we have a chance to make the playoffs and Mark is healthy, Gibbs stays with him. He has to.

He has to or he will simply be making the change for changes sake and then he has to face 'why now and not before if you, coach, still believe in the guy?'

Once we are mathematically eliminated, then the rationale for getting Jason ready for next year makes sense, in Gibbs logic.

Until then, hope exists, such as it is, and thus a chance for Mark to, if nothing else, go down swinging.

...is the unthinkable.

Dan Snyder has lost the image of well meaning bumbler by having Gibbs because Gibbs so overtly takes responsibiltiy for everything bad and endlessly praises his owner for everything good and being everything a coach could ask for.

The job is Gibbs as long as he wants it and not even Snyder has the hubris, meaning in this case insanity, to fire God.

:yeahthat: The Redskins honestly didn't stand a chance. Chris Cooley is on DC101 every Monday morning and he said that no one stepped up yesterday. He said that it's not Brunell, it's the team as a whole. There's no consistency.

But the Skins have no chance for the playoffs now. It is not a "performace" issue because as you point out they all suck equally, it is a "Brunnel is old, very limited time left in the league, might as well look to the future and start bringing along the new guy" now since this season is all but over. If you bring in the youngster and give him 6 starts and we go 0-6 big whoop. Think "Romo".

..they could go 10-6. They could finish 3-3 in the NFC East and have a chance at winning a tie breaker over NY and Philly. They need to win 7 straight to do this. It is POSSIBLE.

Now, I think I've made my thoughts on Brunell known add nauseum. We are the laughingstock of the league simply based on the success of so many young QB's. My point is simply that given the things Gibbs has said matter to him, the leadership and smarts and decent results and given Mark's performance relative to Gibbs stated expectations, there is no case to be made in benching him yet, per Gibbs.

If we win next week and Mark's healthy, he certainly starts the following week. If we lose and Mark's healthy will still may not have reached the point of mathematical elimination.

Gibbs is a man of redemption when it comes to 'his' guys.

You are exactly right. They should give Jason a chance. Hell, look who they have left to play - Bucs, Panthers, Falcons, Eagles again, Saints, Rams & the Giants. Portis is gone, at least until they play the Falcons or the Eagles again...They are 3-6 now, do they honestly think they have a chance of going 10-6 or even 9-7? Let #17 play, he may surprise them. Sure as hell can hurt.

No to get off the subject....But...I would like to comment on the no heart overpaid safety. Adam A. is the worst signing ever. He cant cover anyone and never has been able too. Even in St. Loius he couldn't cover, they just outscored everyone. We brought him in here with a big paycheck thinking he was the next John Lynch. He cant hold Lynch's jock strap. Why didnt we keep Ryan Clark, Walt Harris???????

...that's an interesting question, especially because it seems Archuletta was Greg Williams idea.

We let Antonio Pierce go. Bad.
Fred Smoot go. Bad.
Champ for Portis. Bad.
Clark. Bad.
Get Carter. Not much good.
Get Griffin. Good.
Big Joe. Good.
Marcus Washington. Good.
Carlos Rogers #1. Not so good.
Springs. Good but if we'd kept Champ and Fred...

It's a mixed bag on defense for the last three years. There is no arguing that this past year, Archuletta and Carter, was a bust.

No consistancy because there are no leaders among all the talent. Change the QB, give the team a different look. Shake the tree a little and see what falls out.

If ya keep doing what you've always done, you're going to get what you've always gotten.

If Gibbs goes any longer with the "Brunell is God theme", Gibbs should be replaced. It is simply retarded to go this long with no improvement without making some serious changes.

If they don't want to use Campbell, maybe they can use Randle El, he can at least throw the ball father than 10 yards.

Good point. I thought Archeletta lost his starting job? I never saw his mumber yesterday at all. Every burn we took was Rogers or Springs.

Arch is killer in run support. He is a wildman but you are right he can't cover at all. He was the culprit in the pass completion last week that got Dallas in FG range. He got burned bad right in the middle. Luckily it was blocked but #40 almost was the goat for a loss.

Statistically speaking Gibbs is justified in keeping Brunell in the game.
