I tell everyone this....
Make sure to drink the milk. It's way better that ours. :yay:

 when I was there it was being flown in from California because the health dept. finally condemmed the local stuff due to the amount of pesticides in it.

It was also cheaper to fly it in

I was there in 1992 & 1993. The milk was so good! :yum:

Thanks for all the great ideas...everybody.. :sarcasm:

Mauna Kea: astronomy center - you can drive to the visitor's center at 9,000 feet. Best place in the world to see the stars. Get there before sundown and you can hike up a rock formation to see the sunset on the volcano. Visitor's center has free telescopes for awesome stargazing. If you are adventurous, you can drive a 4wd up to the observatory or pay a guide to take you there. We saw enough just from the visitor's center though. It was the highlight of a very good trip.

Akaka Falls - 2 impressive waterfalls, plus hiking trails

Punluu Beach - Black Sands, sea turtles, camping

Kahaluu Beach - very good snorkling, better than the boat trip we took for snorkling - but the boat trip also let us see dolphins swimming with the boat, and a shark swimming with us snorklers LOL

Puu Mahana- Green Sands Beach - would be unique, we didn't get to see it because it's only assessable by hiking 6 miles, but if you're hiking anyway, this would be good.

Big Island is great for a relaxing vacation, but has lots to see. We spent 8 days only there, and, while I'd like to see the other islands, it was well worth the time.

Oh, also there is a hiking place that you can hike through old volcano tubes, I think that's at Vocano State Park. If you go, bring a light, we found it hard to hike with only cellphone lighting LOL

Enjoy!

That was awsome. It was actually cold (er) up there. It's a dry lifeless moon scape where you go in and on the other side it was misty with 12 ft high ferns. I was expecting to see a dinosaur

I lived on Ohau between Haleiwa and Wiamea bay from 80-85. Wiamea Falls was a nice hike.
Wiamea is a beach break, the waves break right on the beach and the bottom drops out quickly. We would load an ice cheast up with mangos and ice and watch the tourist ladies get their suits knocked off while we kicked back and sold ice cold mangos fot $.25
