HDTV in St. Mary's?

Be about it
We have HDTV in St. Mary's through DirecTV, but only 1 local channel is in HD, I think. I'll have husband comment later and give specifics. He does get all of the HFL Sunday Ticket football games in HD.

"ALLEGEDLY" DishNetwork and DirectTv will have more HD channels available by the end of the month. The sats are up, they just need to be brought fully on line. The only problem is that you will need a 5 LNB HD dish. A buddy of mine just got this setup (sorry can't recall price) from AAA SatCom in Lex. Pk.

LOL @ HFL, that is the advantage of DirecTV it is the only one that has the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket if you like football. I have comcast just because it is offered at a discount through my homeowners assoc. but I have to pay for the internet service which is $46.10 a month. I am fed up with Comcast in general and would have something else if it weren't for the homeowners assoc. discount.

I just switched from Dish to DirectTV but the install won't happen for another week so I can't tell you about the quality.

I live in Tall Timbers so I can't get Comcast. I've heard bad things about GMP, (Metrocast), so I wanted to stay away from them. I switched from Dish to DirectTV because we got a 50" HDTV for christmas and Dish wasn't willing to give us a free HD receiver even though we have been with them almost two years and our contract with them is up. DirectTV is giving us a free HD receiver, a standard (not HD) DVR, and a standard receiver for the three rooms we want TV in. Since we're a new customer with them we're getting it all for free. Additionally, and probably most importantly, we're getting the new H20 HD reciever which will allow us to receive the local channels in HD which means we won't need an OTA antenna which likely won't work in Tall Timbers. Also important to me is they have ESPN2 in HD while Dish does not yet. Dish claims that they will transmit the local channels in HD starting in March but I don't want to wait that long, especially if they aren't giving me the HD receiver for free.

I'm getting the H20 receiver that the phone tech told me will allow reception of the local HD programming from DirectTV without an OTA antenna. It's their new HD receiver and replaces the H10. As of this past weekend the Best Buy in California didn't have the H20 in stock or I would have signed up with them.

I'll post again after the install (19th) to let you know how the performance is and which locals I get in HD.

H20 on eBay...make money after rebate!

I'll wait for the H20-250 (HD-DVR) to come out...if I stick with DirecTV.

hdtv direct tv website

I just looked on the DirecTV website and they are now indicating that we can get local HD channels for all 4 major networks if we have the proper HD equipment:

http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/see/LocalChannels.jsp?_requestid=51732

This is a new development. I was checking just a few weeks ago and local HD was not available.

The local hdtv you get "sometimes" is fox but its off the satellite feed. I know it lists the 4 channels available butttt when you scan for the local or offline channels approximately 60 channels will indicate availability depending on the azimuth the offline antenna is directed. With no booster no signal, added booster and still could not receive.
According to the Tech, the installs he had done this was in october the furthest south he had gotten an offline signal was over in leonardtown. He also said if i fussed enough they would give HD feeds from the new york channels off the satellite.
Direct tv and i have about 20 emails from them will tell you a) they have been having trouble with their off line antennas (blame it on the manufactureer) b) stations are not up and broadcasting in hd c) we will be doing satellite feeds for our customers by Nov 1 d) your receiver is faulty (not, have changed out 2).
Bottom line it appears feeds through the satelite in hd format are coming they started on the west coast and moving our way maybe in March.

I have Direct, the bill is about $121.00 a month, we get all the movie channels and all that other crap, sports, music, I wish they had some package where you could give up the sports and music and pay less, cause I'd be more than willing to give up every single one of those channels, as for the HDTV, mmmm DTV says their channels are HDTV but I have just a regular ol TV so I dunno if theres a difference.

DirecTV > *

If your TV is HD ready, get an antenna for local channels. Some of the local channels broadcast in HD. :yay: :yay:

Got my directtv hooked up on Friday. I get the local channels in HD without an off-air antenna. You need the H20 reciever to allow the locals in HD. The catch is their is no H20 DVR yet. Also, the H10 DVR was $400 after a $200 rebate so I'm guessing the H20 DVR will be priced higher than this.

Reception is great and the football games were spectacular in HD.

Getting an OTA signal really does depend on your location, though. I have a friend who lives just 4 miles away from me in Lusby who can get all the channels OTA, but he lives on a hill. I live on the water, surrounded by lots of trees and other houses. I cannot get a single OTA channel where I live. I had the antenna people come out and survey my property in the dead of winter (when tree interference should have been at a minimum) and they couldn't get a signal w/ a 10 ft. pole on top of my roof. I've had the directv waivers in place for the national channels since 1999, so I get the my local channels and the HD feed of the national stations in NYC from directv.
