Thanks but I'm good. My employer actually offers health care benefits.

Hence why I assumed this thread was about that. What was I thinking?

No, the thread was about those of us that self-insure to see if they've received their notices yet on how much their premiums are going up next year. Somehow, employer provided health insurance got into the mix.

Because no where up until this point has anyone mentioned this thread's topic being self-insured.

The number of employees that are self-insured is huge though...

But what might surprise you is that a majority (62% of all U.S. employers) have fewer than 10 employees - 4.6 million firms.

It’s these employers who are less likely to offer traditional group health insurance.

46% of all small and medium businesses (with less than 200 employees) don’t offer traditional employer-sponsored health insurance. That’s over 2.7 million employers.

56% of all micro employers (with less than 10 employees) don’t offer traditional employer sponsored health insurance. That’s 2.6 million employers.

Open enrollment for 2018 doesn't begin until Nov 1st. So when does everyone think we'll start seeing the letters from our insurance providers outlining the increases for next year?

Yes, nothing about being self-insured. :coffee:

Anyhoo, my company's open enrollment starts next month and they are supposed to be sending out mail packets in the next few days about it.

I don't believe anyone is doubting a large number of people are self-insured because many small businesses do not, or can not, offer health insurance plans.

This is where Rand Paul's idea comes in about groups of people joining a pool to get insurance. His example was using GM. If GM didn't offer health insurance, instead of the 200,000 employees of GM each getting individual plans, they'd be better suited (and get a better deal) if they joined together on a group plan. The same can be said for people with pre-existing conditions.

We've moved beyond this idea of individual freedom in regards to health insurance in only a few short years and those elected to change what they said they would aren't likely to do so. But since it's some kind of different than Obamacare, those in the GOP (and their constituants) are willing to settle for any little bit their handlers give them. We'll keep having this conversation every election cycle.

Some of their "constituants" might be willing to settle for that lame attempt but I'm quite certain not all of them are. And once again, nothing is being included to remove state borders as a restriction on insurance sales, nor is there any attempt at rational tort reform, eliminating TV ads for prescription drugs, etc.

And I posted the links about small business insurance benefits because there are - in evidence right here - numerous people that were clearly oblivious of the extent of employees that are self-insured (or uninsured) these days.

I would agree that not all of them are, which is why I said "some". I'm aware that the "new" Graham-Cassidy bill doesn't do much of anything, I made a thread about it.

Wonder how many of them are tools that run around boasting how fat their wallet is and posting pics of all their boats yet are too damn cheap to offer their employees health insurance.
