Xfm is some kind of satelite radio thingy (?)

I'm not into Xfm stuff so I never installed it or anything - maybe its something that came with optimizing to 9.0 or something. :frown:

I think I have too many things running in the back ground... when I hit cntrl alt delete I see 28 tasks running in the background and I think it's slowing me down... all of these start running when I turn on the computer so it's all associated with a start command??? Here's what I have running - what can I get rid of and still be able to be online?

Atari Arcade 2 Icon
Explorer
Xfm
Hpcmpmgr
Hptskmgr
Sync
Companion
Wcescomm
Point32
Aams
Mcvsescn
Aoltray
Aolsp scheduler
Save
Mcupdate
Hpgs2wnd
Hpwuschd
Hpgs2wnf
Mcagent
Stimon
Mcregwiz
Lnchbrd
Atitask
Aticwd32
Systray
Aoldial
Watchdog
Mwsoemon

Can I end the task for most of these and run faster  Also, when I get botted offline on AOL why does it say Goodbye FOUR times  Help please??? :frown:
ctrl-alt-dlt....highlight item....click end task

I guess go to control panel and then add or remove programs to see what programs you currently have installed.

This just isn't my day... I just had a blaster rapper yell "Yooo Yooo" come through on my speakers ... I checked to see what the heck it was and couldn't find anything other than another "buddy" of mine is online with about 8 others... I have no idea who these people are!!! So I pull up buddy list and there's about 200 buddies on there that I've never heard of....My aol account has been hijacked 4 times with mass spam emailers, etc... where they had to shut down my account... I think this is all starting to make sense now... the bogus requests to get into private forums... and now all these buddies I don't know... All they had to do is hit the drop arrow and it automatically logs onto somd as me!!! I've solved a ridile!!!! But not one I've set out to solve... :ohwell: Now, I need to think of another password... this is too creepy for me... ick... just another reminder there are mean people out in this world. :frown:

That would also explain why when I sign off (the AOL master user?) I hear a goodbye 4 times... my screen names have overly simplistic passwords... and why AOL runs soo effn' slow and I get booted off every 5 minutes.

It really depends on how you get online, how much ram you have, and how fast your computer is as to whether these tasks are consuming too many resources. Off the top of my head, I can tell you that explorer and systray have to stay, but the rest are too specific for me to know.

Instead of ending tasks, try going into the msconfig utility and unchecking startup items. If you go to start-run, then type "msconfig", a window comes up. Then go to the startup tab and uncheck anything you don't think you will need. Some you can tell what they refer to from the name. But others you will just have to uncheck, restart, and see if it effects anything you don't want effected. Also, delete whats in the startup folder in the Programs menu if you don't need it.

Just remember not to play with anything in the msconfig ulitity other then the startup items or your computer could get very messed up. Also, after you uncheck startup items in the msconfig utility and restart you will get a notification of being in selective startup mode, just ignore it.

I've had that problem also with AOL, but when my account was hijacked, I deleted that screenname and changed my passwords. It sucks I know.

As long as you only play with the items under the startup tab there will be no problem. If something doesn't work, just go back into the msconfig utility and recheck things till it does work. Sometimes you may have to check and uncheck items a few times and do a lot of restarting, but with a little work you can reduce the list to only those things you really need.

Yes, more than being a nuisense...it also explains all these AOL wallett deductions I've been having show up on my bankstatement the past few months... :frown: At least these azzclowns are being smart about it and not running up huge amounts -- just in the $20-50.00 range for things. When I was going through identity theft years ago, it was unheard of and the cops swore out to not worry about it... they just wanted cash... WRONG... After they got my wallet, that had drivers license, ss card, birth certificate, credit cards, car title and registration, etc... they decided to open up accounts and credit cards with my credit, signing my name on things unsealing my license and putting their picture in it, etc...My luck of all things was these thugs were part of a crime ring from Chicago that were in DC on trial for a case... Finally, a smart circuit city manager was able to catch them. They came in late one night and wanted to now if they had the credit for a big screen tv, and the owner said yes.. and then they kept wanting to ad to it and finally, they wanted two big screen tvs and other expensive stuff... so the guy told them that they were closing and he'd take the credit application and approve everything that night. He called the authorities and the sting was set. The next morning 2 300lb african americans (now with my name) showed up with a boyfriend in a huge U-haul truck for their loot... they caught the two girls and the boyfriend ran off. I mean really, if someone wants to be me and have my life... please apply immediately...
