More than that, a declawed cat cannot defend itself should it be attacked. They should never, EVER be let outside.

You never met my cat.

I guess I was lucky with Jack. After I had him declawed, he bit less because he couldn't hold on to you, and his litter habits didn't change at all.
My Mom had her cat declawed and she never had any problems with her. Was the sweetest, cuddly kitty you could ask for. Oh, and what a talker she was, too.

My mother always had cats and never had any of them declawed. Never had a problem either. I have two rat terriers and they cut the tails on them before you even get the dog. Just a thing they do to them for looks. I never understood it myself.

It's interesting that some of you say declawing is wrong, but cropping ears and docking tails is okay.

Well as I see it a hanging dew claw is asking for trouble...weather it be a inside poodle or an outside working hunting dog...I can see why those dern things are removed..

Also as a groomer and a knotted dog...dew claws are easy to wack practically off... :twitch:
That's one thing I wish I would have had done to my dogs. Have the dew claw removed. The poor little sh!tz get that thing caught on the carpet or something and it definitely hurts them.

Years ago, I worked in a vet's office and witnessed all three procedures. Declawing was horrible but I guess the way it's done now is somewhat better. Same for the ear crops, just awful and bloody. The puppies never seemed to mind about having their tails snipped though. More distressed at being away from mom and the sibs for the few minutes it took.

So, Vrai, what about circumcision on human baby boys?

I did have my son circumsized not only so he would not look different than dad, but I didn't want the poor kid have to worry about getting UTI and yeast infections with being uncut.

I had never heard of removing dewclaws til I got my Weimeraner. I went to cut his nails and was miffed by the lack of the dewclaw. He was 4 years old so couldn't see scars. I called my vet and asked him and he told me that was normal for the breed. Makes sense though, my dalmation is always snagging hers on something and I have to wrap it for a few days.
