I've been calling around to see if I could find one for you. I'm in Calvert. Animal Control will come out tomorrow or you could pick up a trap from them. I'm not having any luck for rescues in Charles that could help you know.

This might sound silly but years ago my son and I trapped a very small kitten with the old box, stick, string and can of tuna method...had him for 15 years. The kitten was very small and very frightened so he didn't try to run once under the box. Be careful though when handling him..maybe use a towel or gloves so you don't get bitten or scratched.

Well went back in the woods. I can't beleive I went in the woods and sat there, in the dark. lol When I went back towards the woods, he was close to the edge of the woods still meowing. As I got closer he moved farther in the woods. I could still him meowing, and he sounded like he was still very close to me. Then all of a sudden I couldn't hear him. I kept talking and calling and still nothing. Came back in the house and went back out in about 30 minutes, still didn't hear the kitten. He was like right there and then gone. I am wondering if his mother heard him and came around and he went with her. He was pitiful with his crying like he was lost.
I would like some opinions on what I should do...I have been thinking about getting a trap from the Humane Society(I guess they could use the money) if I decide to do this. I think I would like to trap the mom and get her spayed. I think there is a rescue that might do it for me. And then should I let her go afterwards? I would really like to catch the kitten, because I would keep it. The kitten did eat some hard food I put out there cause I heard him crunching. Would the kitten(or kittens, not sure if there was more) be ok do you think if I caught the mom first? Should I put more then one trap out there? I trapped some ferals before and had them fixed but there were no kittens involved. Just would like some advice. I sure wished I could have caught that little baby. Thanks for offering the traps and I may get in touch, if everyone thinks I should put more then one.

I have several steel jaw traps, I think I have a small enough one for a kitten, although the tension of the spring would probably cut it nearly in two since is is made for a coyote size critter. I will come out and trap this menacing creature for you if you need me to.

Just teasing with you. If you want a safe efficient way to catch the kitten, google animal box traps and you should find several plans to build your own.

Keep putting the food out there for him. Set it closer to the house each time you set it out. The kitten has probably gotten separated from it's mother/litter and is frightened. If may not even be feral - but is afraid.

It's not too cold out there now - he will be fine - it will take a little time to get him to feel safe but you have some time to round up a trap and get him in the house.

PM me - I may be able to help you out with a trap.

Some of the traps (most) that snap down hard can actually crush the back or neck of a kitten if they are not all the way in or there are several animals that trigger the closure and one is toward the entrance .... just a thought - that's why most of us regular trappers use the brown traps that have the easy close door that can't close until the body is in or out.
