PLEASE HELP A LITTLE GIRL FROM LAPLATA!!!
Body: I'm passing along the following message to try to help a friend help a little girl's family in the La Plata area. Claire's mom is a single mother that has obviously had to go through a lot more than most of us ever will, so if you have a little extra cash...:

Good Afternoon Friends;

Most of you probably now received several e-mails regarding Claire Alvey. She is a beautiful granddaughter of a close friend of mine. Claire is a 3 year old little girl that was diagnosed with a very rare form of Cancer, Wilms Tumor. She has fought hard to overcome her battle with cancer undergoing many surgeries and Chemo treatments. She has been through several experimental treatments. She has endured more in her 3 years of life that most of us ever will in a life time. Unfortunately Claire is going to lose her battle with cancer. Her family is making final preparations for her and realizing very quickly that the costs are more than they can handle on top of the overwhelming medical bills. The figure the family has received for funeral expenses is $1,900.00.

I know many of you have donated and helped already, but I am asking you to reach out one more time and help the family a little through these final days. If you are interested in sending a donation please make checks payable to Claire Alvey. You can drop donations off to me at my office or mail them to my attention: P.O. Box 2629 La Plata, MD 20646. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Thank you in advance for your help and concern. Please send this to as many people as possible.

That seems like a very low figure for a funeral. My grandfather had a very bare bones funeral. The service was even held at the funeral home. His funeral was still $7k.

People that scam for benefits by using someone else's tragedy are just jackasses. :frown:

It looks like the PO box is the Mailing address of the business. It may be on the up and up, but I personnally would not send money to a PO Box.

I know Jamie personally, if you have your doubts....call her...

That's great but most of the time when people are collecting money for a child a bank account is set up and donations are sent directly to the bank.

It's not personal. People are just afraid to send money to a PO Box (especially when they receive the info via e-mail).

But Wilm's tumor isn't usually one that jumps to mind. You'd think they'd come up with something that lots of people hear about. It's a really nasty one that is present from infancy. Had to care of a kiddo with Wilms when in school.

Funerals for little ones are much less in cost. The caskets don't cost as much.

I can’t say much good about funeral homes, I feel they pray on grief. I read an article (can’t always believe what you read though) that they mark up the price of a coffin 1000% . They pay 212.00$ for it and charge you 2120.00$
