Doing a rear end on an older Nissan Sentra and ruined the head of an upper shock mount but. I have a nut breaker but can't get it around the nut as it's recessed into the shock mounting plate. ideas?.

Thoughts off the top of my head:
Can you grind the socket outside to get it skinny enough to get it on?

Take an old socket that is smaller diameter and weld it to the top of the nut?

Screw another nut down on top of the existing one with a layer of JB weld on it and once it's set, get a socket on it and unscrew both at same time?

Third idea sounds do-able.

Was thinking a dremel but worried about screwing up the threads.

if possible, take a pic of it and post it up so we can see

sounds like the dremel cut *almost* off method plus a screwdriver or chisel to pop it off, then chase threads with another good nut or thread tool might work

Two pictures if they work, using the new parts on the counter showing how the nut is recessed into the shock mount.

The bolt it mounts to is too long, have to use a deep well socket to get to the nut. Box end and open end wrenches won't reach. Off course all my deep Wells are 6 pointed and why I rounded the nut.

On the car these are upside down of course, up inside the wheel well..

Oh and because of the way it's recessed can't get the nut splitter on it.

I haven't found a way to get to it yet. Think it's between the outer and inner walls of the car, tucked in by the back seat.

Get it fixed?

Not yet, I think I'll get it knocked out tonight though.

Rear calipers are supposed to be in today, so I can tear the caliper and rotor off, give me a little more working room, then just have to piece it all back together again.

Bob, no real images, but reading into what I can find, seems the should be able to access the top of the bolt with enough disassmembly of the rear seat area. then you could grind that off.

I browsed last night on some of the sentra forums out there to see if someone else had a similar problem to yours... but couldnt find anything... DSL crapped out so i gave up and went to bed.

Next time spray those fasteners down with some PB blaster a week before you plan to do the work. I do anytime prior to working on suspension or anything under the car and rarely have issues.
