The Doctor that runs this website is thought to be controversial, however, he does uncover important information about products and feed we use.

"As I was scanning an industry trade journal recently, a headline caught my eye.

It announced the opening of a new manufacturing plant to produce protein for animal diets.

Protein in animal diets being one of my favorite subjects, I read a little further … only to discover the company opening the new plant makes vegetable protein."

I am lazy today, and haven't read the article yet...but I will. Just want to add my 2 cents. When Dogs were in the wild, how many of them were seen chasing Soy Products around the plains? It's not a natural product for Dogs.

We all need to be vigilant as most businesses try to find the cheapest way to make products to maximize profit, and it should be OUR goal to refuse to buy products that we feel are inferior - nothing speaks louder than lack of sales  .

It can be so scary how a new food can affect a critter. We've all heard how to mix in a new food a little at a time right? Case in point:

My Mom's female Newfoundland (165 lbs) had bloat from ground turkey that was cooked and mixed into her regular food one Friday night (came from neighbor who got it from the Food Pantry (because they were going to throw it out due to the packaging being damaged and considered unfit for human consumption). Well the dog had not been fed ground Turkey before.

The next day, about 12-14 hours after she ate dinner (at that time they only fed 1 time per day, but now they feed 2 times per day), the ground turkey (NEW food to dog) caused excessive gas, and her stomach/intestines flipped in 2 places YIKES. This caused the dog to drool what Mom called PURE WHITE foam, and she knew that was very odd, so looked it up on the internet, then called me, then took the dog to the regular vet right away who did a scan and said to take the dog to the ER vet immediately (and the vet office called ahead to say the dog was on the way). I showed up right as Mom was pulling away from her regular vet and escorted her to the ER vet (she didn't know to get there). Thank goodness for the timing of it all as the ER vet said she could have died within a few more hours had Mom waited (was TRUE, not BS)

The great folks at the ER vet in Waldorf saved the Newfie from certain death, and ICit was a part of the great team that saved her life. Mom's regular vet would have been able to do the surgery had the surgeon been on duty that Saturday, since he was not, it was off to the ER vet.

I need to get to Peppers Pet Pantry of these days. Boxy likes toys, so I'm sure I'd find him some good ones there <G>. My dog doesn't seem to care much for toys unless he sees Boxy with a toy LOL.
