Here I go again....

My PC died last summer/fall when the hard drive crapped out on me. Ended up buying a new set up since the old one was 5 years old.

Last night I was using the laptop I got from SMARTCO last fall, doing some scout work. Stepped away to ask the wife a question and when I came back, the blue screen was up and said something about a memory dump. Turned off the machine and tried repeatedly to get it back up. The hard drive was clicking. Just like the one in the PC when it died. Let it cool down for about an hour and it started back up. Started trying to copy my files to usb drive when it dumped again.

If I take the hard drive out and put it in the freezer (this was recommended by somebody for the PC hard drive) and then reinstall it, hopefully I will gain enough time to grad the data before it dumps again.

I HATE COMPUTERS!!!!!!!!!!

Man. It seems everyone is loosing HDs and such of late. GF's started blue screening and I know of two other people that just had all their data lost. Sucks!

If you have another computer at home, just scoop up a sata to usb adapter...

Hook the laptop HD up to your pc and copy whatever you need from it...

Does the laptop have to be turned on?

Only have 1 file I absolutely need to pull out, so I will dump it to usb drive as soon as it comes up.

You will remove the drive from the laptop, hook it to this nifty little adapter and hook the usb end into your pc....

Ah. Tried that when my PC died. Unless I can get the disc to spin up correctly, it won't work. The problem is the drive itself, not the laptop. I just thank God that there is nothing irreplaceable on the machine.
