Here we go again...

Salt Life
The last two years the school has done a Yankee Candle fundraiser. Now those I'll buy. :yay: However, the junk magazines that were brought home the other day are over priced garbage. In the trash they go.

I'd go for an old school fundraiser, mini-bazzar, cake sale kind of thing. People can see each other, talk to the teachers, gets people out, kids aren't knocking on stranger's doors.... a real social event as well as a money maker.

Throwing the deuces
Oldest brought home one yesterday. At least his school is doing flowers. I thought about trying to do that one but decided not to and threw it out.

Power with Control
We tell the teachers that if there are things they need, to let us know, and we wold be willing to provide what we can, its usually art class, or sometimes supplies for a science project, and we have no problem with that, but we dont do the sales thing at all.

:dingding: I missed those. We did those in the 80's and early 90's when i was in elementary school.

Ew, I hate fundraisers...I like it much better when the school opts to allow parents to donate, say, $5, in leiu of doing the whole magazine, cookie dough, wrapping paper stuff. You want $5 from each parent? Awesome, let me find my wallet!!

Also, with the economy today, who wants to buy some stale popcorn? Seriously!?

Have to say I'm very disappointed, fundraiser came home yesterday & I was hoping for something easy like candybars & got the cherrydale catalog of junk yesterday....If the stuff wasn't so overpriced the school would do much better.

I am the only one who doesn't think it's a huge deal. Yeah sure they're a big pita but it's not THAT big of a deal. I donate to the school/classroom and even though it's not enjoyable, participate in the fund raisers.

we participate too & I really don't mind. I just think that the school could benefit more from doing something different. And yes I'm going to suggest it at PTA or to whomever cares! lol

I told all the teachers that we don't sell the junk. If they needed school supplies, send a note home with my kid and we'd take care of it. Would rather spend $20.00 on school supplies than $20.00 on some crappy candle so the school can get $1.39 to buy supplies with.

Amen to that!

I don't mind the ones with the online option, where I can send out a link and if someone is interested - good on them. If not - then delete - no pressure, and I never know the difference.

I refuse to call people , or let my child go out and ask others though. Most people we know, we know because we have kids the same age who are also doing fundraisers... Stupid.

If the teacher ever tried to single my child out for not selling... Oh man...
