Over the past days we saw the story of the 82 year old (Navy veteran) WalMart employee who was barely making ends meet. A business owner told his story and set up a Go Fund Me account for him to retire and enjoy his remaining years. Thats a GREAT story. Well, he finally retired and got a salute from the community. ( a little over 100K) GREAT!!!

Okay, get ready to call me a derogatory name, synonymous with an anal opening.

A 24 year old football player, making millions, injured while playing football Monday night, now has a Go Fund Me account topping 6 MILLION dollars...
I hope he will have a full recovery and can live a lonnnnggg life but...

When the charity had only a couple grand in funds, no problem. Now throw in a couple million, the real vultures will emerge.

I don't get it either. Why set up a GFM for a millionaire?

It wasn’t set up for him, it was set up by him to buy toys for kids in his home town. It was found after he was injured and blew up. It’s funding goal was only about $2500.
Which also makes no sense. Why would a millionaire need to set up a GFM for only $2500? That's a lunch with friends for him, just buy the stuff already.

My guess is it is a requirement of the NFL to do some type of community service, so his financial advisor suggested he set up a GFM for the kids. No work involved because we won’t advertise it so very few donations will come in.

Well now we have to hire a staff and elect a board of directors to manage all of this new found wealth! ”Thats not what I signed up for Mr Financial Advisor”

But I still don’t get why people are donating to this fund now. That’s the part that makes no sense to me.

This is what a lot of celebrities do, they lend their name, which they value at a few million dollars, to the charity.
That's their tax write off.

He set it up when he was still in college to get toys for kids at his mother's daycare. Here is a pretty good article since the boom/boon for the Chasing Ms Foundation.

That's my sentiment. No one cared about this fund until he got hurt.

Also as a 2nd yr player and low draft choice he's not a millionaire yet. League min for him is $480,000.
