Hey Gumbo - Golf Cart Repair

Hey Gumbo and everybody else- Golf Cart Repair

I have an EZ Go Workhorse. Gas motor. It turns over, but doesn't fire. Do you work on these things Gumbo? If I cannot figure it out tomorrow, I will be looking for somebody to fix it.

Cart was running as of 7/29/08.

Has been serviced by Metro Golf Cart 3 times since 11/07, and based on receipts, they look like a bunch of incompetent crooks.

11/07 - replaced fuel pump, cleaned carb, adjusted valves, changed oil.
6/08 - tune up - adjusted valves, cleaned carb, installed carb vent lines, new plugs
7/08 - replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, carb, fixed carb linkage & adjusted governor linkage

Plugs were checked & cleaned yesterday.

I drained the gas and put in new gas. Old gas was smelling bad. Still wouldn't fire.

Checked the fuel pump was pumping fuel. It was. Fuel line feeding carb not blocked.

Sprayed starting fluid in the carb. It started and then died. Smelled something. Plastic housing on the carb that the air intake hose attatches to had a puddle of burning starting fluid on it. Blew it out.

Tried again with starting fluid. It started, ran for a couple seconds, then died.

Tried again. More starting fluid than last time. Started, ran 10 seconds or so, then died. Had another burning puddle of starting fluid.

Thoughts (other than to use less starting fluid)?

It's ALIVE!!!!!!!!

Pulled off the carb.

Bowl was a good 1/4 full of gas crystals.

Pulled it all apart, flushed with gas to wash out any remaining crystals. Blew out passages.

Put it back together and ...
IT STARTED RIGHT UP!!!!

Never tangled with a gas powered golf cart had a friend that had an electric/battery powered one we use to work on. That thing was awsome used to cruise through the neighborhood and fields at night drinking beer, it was almost totally silent. I know in Fl. in some retirement communities, they are almost a standard way of getting around. However in my neighborhood lawn tractors are more the mode of transpo.

Need? Probably doesn't, I would say it would be more of a want. To put it into terms you might understand think of it like beer, one doesn't need it, they want it.
:yeahthat:

I don't NEED a golf cart. I WANTED a golf cart. Got a screaming deal on it.

It's got a dump bed on the back.

Gonna use it for getting around the hunting property. Hauling stuff around here. The pleasure the kids have gotten riding around the yard and neighborhood with me today has been worth it.

Only because you haven't paid for it yet...

The deal was he should get it running and then subtract the cost of repairs from the agreed purchase price.... so although he's not getting ripped off....:cds:

It's now for sale. I just don't use it enough to justify keeping it. Needs the carb cleaned again at this point since it's been sitting for almost a year. Spring cleaning, clearing out the yard of stuff I don't use enough to justify keeping. Golf cart, mowers, etc all going.

You might want to wait until the birds that are nesting in the dash cubby hatch.
