Your Registry is corrupt. Because the Registry is corrupt, you won't be able to get in to the Repair Console; It'll just show you the same BSOD.Mikeinsmd said:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
WINDOWS\SYS32\CONFIG\SYS
You can attempt repair by starting windows setup using orig. CD. Select "R" at the 1st screen.
MSN Messenger is one of those "embedded" programs Microsoft includes with Windows. It can't be uninstalled; but there are ways to "remove" it.Fallen said:Why won't either of my computers let me uninstall MSN Messenger? It keeps telling me something about a packet and I can't get rid of the crap
Can't you disable it (MSN) through the registry?TWL said:MSN Messenger is one of those "embedded" programs Microsoft includes with Windows. It can't be uninstalled; but there are ways to "remove" it.

Yes, it can be disabled through the registry but it will still occupy disk space. But the following I'm about to suggest to Fallen should remove it from disk.Mikeinsmd said:Can't you disable it (MSN) through the registry?
How do you stop it from loading and running in the background everytime you boot up? I don't use it but I don't want to remove it either.TWL said:Yes, it can be disabled through the registry but it will still occupy disk space. Fallen, try the following:
Click on Start, Click on Run, type in the following:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Reboot
In regedit, navigate to:Mikeinsmd said:How do you stop it from loading and running in the background everytime you boot up? I don't use it but I don't want to remove it either.
Now, will that remove every version of MSN that I have or just the one I'm trying to remove?TWL said:Yes, it can be disabled through the registry but it will still occupy disk space. But the following I'm about to suggest to Fallen should remove it from disk.

when I try to remove it from the Add/Remove list. This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists, and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.
I'm not sure why you are getting that. Try reinstalling MSN 7, then uninstall it in the normal fashion.Fallen said:I did it but MSN 7 is still showing up on my Add/Remove programs list. I'm also still getting when I try to remove it from the Add/Remove list.
