Comforts of home
Shoot, mine has XM, FM, AM, weather channel 6 disc CD changer in helmet mics and speakers, hook up for the PDA, heated seats, heated grips, cruise and...it will adjust the speaker volume as you scream across the wide open spaces out west!!
If you are looking for a first bike, the BMW 650 is a good bet as is most any twin that isnt overly torquey or horsepowered. You want a nicely balanced forgiving ride that allows you to stand upon the ground flat footed. My return to motorcycling bike was an Intruder 1500. It was low, heavy and not overly fast (in the crotch rocket sense). It has since seen two other owners that were new to motorcycling and they both commented that it was very ....forgiving of rookie mistakes.
As Bob said, ride as many as you can until you find that one that "fits". It needs to be comfortable and user friendly. I started in 1976 straddling a Suzuki GT550 two stroke triple with a seat that wasnt much more than a piece of plywood covered with Naugahyde. Rides were limited to short jaunts never in excess of 200 miles in a day. The rides are longer now, but the twinkle in the eye is still there!!
Get a copy of David Houghs..Street Smarts, or whatever the heck the name of it is. You can learn a lot from the comfort of your home, avoiding the school of hard knocks lessons learned on the streets.
