Get with it bro LOL.. I have modified and customized a couple of the open source portals and use it as a standard template these days. Saves me alot of time and energy. God I hate static page design anymore.

FCS... got any good references for these?
I find that most of the time I have to completely rewrite good designs anyway.

Ive been using Mambo which is MySQL and PHP.. It is very robust so far. I also have an asp.net portal that is open source but Im still testing it out. I also use oscommerce for shopping cart systems which is really nice and pretty good at customizing and plenty of community to add mods to it.

Here is a site Ive been working on for about a month now. It has been pretty good using it. I still need to understand some more of the templating system to better modify it.
