My hibiscus just started to bloom last week. This year, I staked the flowers because they are heavy. Most of the blooms are the same size when fully opened; approx. 9" and they only last one day. Well worth the wait for the show! This is one of my favorite plants and it comes back every year.

Very pretty! I looked at a couple of hibiscus plants yesterday while I was out and about, but didn't buy one. Now I wish I had. I just may go back and get one now.

There are a ton of beautiful hibiscus plants at the nursery where BF works...I see them every day when I pick him up (we carpool)...they are taunting me. Now I really want to bring one home!

I picked up 4 up at Wentworth's in Charllotte Hall about 3 weeks ago. They may still have a sale. I got three red and white one's ($8.99) and one Copper King at 12.99. They are still blooming and have been transplanted from their pots to a new bigger pot and are very pretty and are doing very well and healthy!

You should, they're so easy and pretty! Mine is a different variety than Sharon's...it's grown at least a foot (probably more) since we planted it a couple months ago and has had continuous blooms (and lots of them) since then as well. I love it. :yay:

Ok...just called BF. I've got an "appointment" to pick out plants when I pick him up. I am going to check out the hibiscus (hibiscuses?) and also some hydrangeas. BF says I have to have a permit to plant any more plants.... :blushing: I'm going to have to make a new bed to put everything in. It's worth it though.

Wentworth's is pretty far for me to drive just to get one plant. And knowing me, it wouldn't be just one plant. I stopped at the nursery in Leonardtown for one plant and came away with three! :jameo:

I just picked up two candy stripe Hibiscus and I love them! Do I need to bring them inside for the winter?

It depends on whether they are tropical or hardy hibiscus. From what I've read, "Candy Stripe" is a hardy hibiscus in our planting zone and can stay in the ground year-round.

:yay: I put them in planters instead of the ground in case I need to bring them in.

Nice hibiscus, Sharon. We have several of a different variety than that one. Would like to post a pic but there a re only a few flowers today, maybe in a couple days there'll be more.

But I'd like to share this story about our wave petunias. A few weeks ago, a deer (guessing) clipped the flowers off. All of 'em, though there weren't many then. Now I know clipping flowers usually produces more eventually, but we were pleasantly surprised these past few days. In the past few weeks, it's practically doubled with lots of blooms.

I like the shape of the wave petunia, depending upon the pot it goes in I suppose.

So...thanks to Sharon's beautiful pictures and Nickel's encouragement, I ended up getting 2 hibiscus plants. One looked like this (side note-oddly enough, when I was trying to find a pic similar to my plant, I found this pic which came from sharon ), and the other looked like similar to this.

I also got a hydrangea like this. I also got a hydrangea like this.

That's not all...I also got two bright pink coneflowers like this, and a lavender plant. :jameo:

Now I need to get busy making my new flowerbed.

I thought that looked familiar. It was taken in a previous year's bloom.

I like the coneflower. :yay:

:yay: The Wave Petunias are great. Very hardy, lots of blooms, and very long-lasting. I have several planted in pots on my front porch:
