High School Football Rivalries

I grew up in an area where the school districts were independent of the government (county / township). Unless you moved, you knew your high school team from the day you entered the system. In elementary school we were able to buy a "season ticket" pack for students. This meant that Moms, Dads and kids all went to the game on Saturday (or Friday night) - few schools had lights so it was mostly Saturday.

Trust me, year in, year out, the rival schools would "prank" each other. Painting, removing or otherwise decorating the rival schools property or mascot.
Given tht it was a daytime game AND parents were in attendance, pre, post and in game fights almost never happened.

Oh, and what's with players going to the concession stand? We never left the field. Even at half time. Whatever we needed, food, drink, etc., was provied by the team.

That's how it was down here for the most part in the 70s. Then for some reason some "bright" GMHS group decided to come after some "equally bright" CHS kids who couldn't quite get the idea to ignore and move on in the GM parking lot. Trash talk went to fist fights and the rest was history. Of course back in the day there weren't any weapons used other than fists.

I've never seen a uniformed player at a concession stand. Plenty in jerseys (JV) to support but none in full gear. Smilin may have more info on that.

As I remember it was a Freshman game, maybe post game. I couldn't figure out why the coach told the players to wear their helmets, but then he had been to CHS before. :killingme
Reminds me of stories about playing at WVU.

Can someone advise on some good high school football rivalries in southern Maryland? The kind that results in much trash talk between the two schools? Those of you from the Oxon Hill area may recall the heated rivalry between Friendly H.S. and Oxon Hill H.S. What similar rivalries in southern Maryland are there?

Nothing like meeting at Livingston Square McDonalds! LOL Those were the good days!
