High speed chase Crain Hwy in Waldorf last night..

Happened at about 12:45-1:00 a.m. early this morning (late Saturday night)...
I was on my way to work, noticed about 4 police cars (all separate, just appeared to be on normal "patrol" for speeders, drunk drivers, etc.

A police car ahead of me made a U turn and I noticed in my rearview mirror he had his lights on and made a turn into one of the business parking lots...a few moments later a mid-dark gray car passes by me and I can hear the noise a flat tire makes as he is driving, and I can smell the burning rubber. A police car is behind him with his sirens/lights on but this gray car would not stop.

I notice that one by one, but very quick response, more police cars are assisting in this chase which is getting rather high speed. About 1 or 2 miles further down Crain Hwy (headed towards the split of Rt. 5 and Rt. 301)...all the police lights are ahead at a stand still (must have been AT LEAST 10 patrol cars). I figured they had gotten the gray car. One lane was open so as I was driving by I looked over to my right and the gray car is smashed upside down in a ditch/woods.

I have been checking news, websites, etc. but I guess the story is too early to have been released.

Does anyone else know what this person was fleeing from (I am thinking it must have been really bad to have attempted what they must have known was an inevitable escape, with the already flat tire).

Very shakening.

Does anyone know anymore about this/or know more details about suspect?

I still haven't seen anything...really odd, this was much much more than a routine stop or accident. But the blotters I've seen haven't updated since Saturday morning..so maybe I'll see today. What is the best site to check crime log/police blotters?

You would be surprised by the number of police chases, here in Charles County late at night, chasing thugs who come down from the north and do there dirty deeds and head back toward PG, its nothing new. If there was anything to it keep checking the Charles County Sherrifs Department Briefs this week it will proably be in there.

Per Charles County Sheriff's Reports - Southern Maryland Headline News

ASSAULT, RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE & HANDGUN: On Sept. 14 at 1:03 a.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer observed a vehicle parked near the front of Fred's Sports store in the 2800 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf - the sight of several recent attempted break-ins. The officer initiated a traffic stop but the suspects fled onto Crain Highway. The suspects continued north, swerving twice into the path of two patrol cars forcing the officers to take evasive action. Officers deployed "stop sticks" to deflate the car's tires but the driver refused to stop. The Precision Maneuver Technique (PIT) was utilized and the vehicle went off the roadway, landing on its side. A check revealed the car was stolen from Prince George's County in July and the tags were reported stolen from Prince George's County in September.

Officers recovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun - which had been reported stolen from another state - inside the car. The driver, a 17-year-old from Oxon Hill, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two counts of assault, and possession of a stolen handgun. The passenger - who refused to provide his identity - was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the incident; he faces similar charges. Sergeant K. Moody is continuing the investigation.

It's a damn good thing you're not a Republican member of the Charles County Board of Commissioners who's running for President of the Board. The NAACP would roll out their press and publicity machine to prove you are a racist. It works very well on Republicans. If you were the Democrat Sheriff of Charles County, the NAACP would be out drumming up money for your reelection.
