Hit and run in Prince Fred

My mommy and daddy taught me to look both ways before stepping into traffic. Not a bad lesson to learn.

I was the person who found the man in the road. I came upon him on my way home from dropping friends off, and I made the call to 911. It was horrific, that's what I know about it. Do you know anything? I didn't even know his name until this article was posted.

I don't know anything. I live in the area and have seen the automated sign requesting information.

No, I didn't hit him. It was horrible to see, I won't claim it wasn't extremely traumatizing. I think I actually went into shock for a while, but it wasn't me that was killed. It was that poor man, and no matter who he was, he didn't deserve to be just left there. The one thing about the article though, he wasn't dying when the EMS got there. He was dead before I called 911. I guess they didn't want to say that, I don't know why, but his eyes were open and he wasn't breathing. It's weird how you can see that someone's dead in their eyes...

I'm sure this will haunt you for some time to come, but I hope you can take comfort in knowing that there was nothing you could have done differently for him.

I've been thinking about it since I heard. Wonder what a fellow from St. Mary's County was doing there at that time? Was he a victim of some other foul play and ended up there? Was he in the road, wearing dark clothing and hit by someone who maybe thought they hit a deer -- there are tons of deer in that area.

I'm sure it was an awful experience for you.

It does haunt me, but not for the reasons most people expect. I really feel sorry that the man died, especially in such a horrific manor, and I truly feel sorry for whoever hit him because they will have to live with that for the rest of their lives, but it's the man's family I feel most for. To have someone you love taken from you so tragically and without warning and no understanding of it, has to be horrible and my heart goes out to them. I do take comfort in knowing there was nothing I could do except make the call, but that gives little comfort in the long run, because it wasn't just one person that suffered from this tragedy.

Somehow I don't think it is bothering the peice of #### that hit him too bad... They fled the scene...

Actually, he was in the middle of the road, where he was when he was hit I don't know. He was wearing dark pants and a dark ball cap, that I can remember, but had on a light colored shirt and light tennis shoes. I don't know how he was there, what he was doing there, and I won't speculate, but if someone thought they hit a deer, and they were sober, wouldn't they have gotten out to see the damage? I know I would have.

Who knows what they were thinking at that time. Fear causes people to do desperate things, but I'm sure, unless they are a sociopath, they have to be haunted by this, at least some.

I would speculate that they were thinking, "thats MY ass".... Not, "let me stop and get this guy the medical attention he needs"...

Possibly, but who knows. I can't make any assumptions but my guess would have been he was dead as soon as he hit the ground. I won't say in a public forum what exactly I saw but if you are interested I will tell you in a private message, that makes me feel he was likely dead instantly...

My heart goes out to the victim, his family, and to you as well. I know first hand how emotionally haunting something like that can be. I witnessed a drag racing accident gone bad several years ago on Sunnyside Road, and it is something I will never forget.

I'm sorry you had to witness that. I imagine it was horrible.

I have a young friend of the family that is in jail right now because she hit and killed someone and ran from it. Long story, but she is in jail, and her father almost lost (and still might) his 3rd generation ownership of an auto repair facility, one of the best in the county (in PA). It doesn't take much to put two and two together there.

Good people do stupid chit, all the time. There's no telling what goes through peoples minds when involved with something like this.

That's such a shame. I can't even imagine how she must feel. Was the person she hit killed or did they survive?
