Home flower and flavors delivery...

...assuming you are the type of person that would order home delivery dairy stuff, would you also order flowering baskets and flowering potted plants like, say, oh, I dunno, gerber daisies? Poinsettias?

Further, what about herbs and spices, basil, thyme, oregano, etc? Would you order, say, a six pack you set in your kitchen, potted, and you pick it fresh, it lasts maybe a week or two, however fast you use it up, and then you order more? The delivery guy taking away the old pots to be re used. You pick and choose.

What about, say, in the off season, a 6-8" pot of spinach or other greens? You just pick off what you want, it lasts however long it lasts and then you order fresh.

Would you trust a home delivery person to have access to your house or garage so stuff doesn't freeze in bad weather?

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

In fact I was going to ask you if you'd bring me some petunias and pansies. And if you're going to be doing herbs and greens, bring me some of those, too.

Wow! I think the herbs and veggie idea is great. I have all kinds of stuff dropped off for delivery so no worries on that count.
I'd love some oregano (great for keeping bugs away from plants), basil , thyme, sage, anise et....
and watercress! do you have watercress?

I am glad you responded because you is a cooking person.

So, paint me a picture; would you like potted herbs where you're just pinching off what you want? Say, a 4" pot or something? Obviously some, like basil, you'd go through faster than others but, you'd simply order to suit your consumption. Doing a Mexican feast? Order a pot or 3 of cilantro.

I'd have to turn this place into a freaking fort to keep the zombies out.

Which, now that I think about it, we could do a theme park kind of thing! For a reasonable fee, you spend the weekend, get to stand a post and, when they come, "Slopes on the wire!!!! Slopes on the wire!!"

We'd have some sort of bad limit, you kill it you clean it. Details...

I think it would be worth testing on a limited scale. Grow from there.....a pun! :pete: Get it? Grow from there?

We'd be seeking requests on what to grow.

I don't do 'limited' scale. We run before we can walk and try to keep the whole thing moving by just shear horsepower.

Delivery would be the challenge since spoilage is an issue. the plant/flower of the month club did it though.

Let me tell you what I do now:

I go to Lowes or wherever; I pick out what I want: garden flowers, herb pots, etc; I bring them home and plant them/put them on my counter. By the time I get them home, I'm done for the day and my motivation has run screaming out the door.

What you're proposing is bringing them to me so I don't have to go to multiple stores, fight crowds and lines, and spend my whole sunny day at the garden center.

So now I call or email you, I tell you what I want and approximately when, you bring it to me, and I spend my day digging in the soil as I'd originally intended.

That's even worth a delivery fee to me. And I'll impulse buy with you just as easily as I do at the garden center; in fact easier because I'm not frazzled and wanting to get the hell out of there.

I'll tell you something else that's annoying:

I get to the garden center needing 3 flats of dark purple petunias and 3 flats of red petunias. Well, they only have 2 flats of purple and the reds are looking quite bedraggled. The pinks are abundant and look great, but I don't want pink.

So that's worth paying for, too: getting what I want.

If you do this could you ping me with the info?

I already do most of this from Nichols Garden Nursery
Herbs, teas, soaps, plants, etc.

My only problem is 1) their location is OR and sometimes it takes a while to get stuff and 2) sometimes their online ordering is a bit wonky so I pick out what I want and have to call the nursery to place my order. I think that part's a trick though because they always upsell me into something else. :ohwell:

I wouldn't allow a delivery person in my home, mostly because of my pets.

That would be another angle; here is what is PRIME this week. That might not solve your problem of getting the colors you want when you want but, you will KNOW what is ready NOW and be able to go from there.

And I won't have to make the trip to the garden center, only to find they don't have what I want or it all looks like the dog's been chewing on it.

Think about bags of soil for resale, too, because I always pick that up when I pick up my plants.

I would like to point out for the class the repeated use of the word 'soil' in several posts now.

This is good because it is NOT dirt. It is SOIL.

Well done. :buddies:
