My neighbor swears she'd never be without it. I just got a quote and the whole deal including all major appliances is only like $50/mo, which seems pretty cheap.

Do you have a home warranty and has it saved your life like the TV commercials say?

I always figured they were a scam, but I do know someone who used theirs for a new air conditioner and a water heater.

When I bought this house, one of the selling points was a transferable home warranty. Had a leak, exercised the warranty. The deductible I had to pay was pretty much the cost of the repair. I did not renew it.

Yeah, I did some maffs and it seems it's cheaper to just pay for stuff out of pocket. I was wondering if I was being a goob and not seeing something.

We had one years ago that came as part of the sale...high deductible and they would repair before replacing if it was even a few dollars cheaper. Then a month later...same thing, same appliance. Luckily we didn't pay for the warranty, the sellers did.

One came with my house when I bought it. I had to replace the hot water heater not long afterwards. I never renewed it.

Nothing to see here
I used to have American home shield and got my money's worth when my Heat pump died. They wound up replacing the heat pump and installing a new air handler and saved my wallet. After that, I cancelled them because the premium jumped up.

I had a home warranty as well. My daughter took a bath one day and when draining the tub flooded the hardwood floors. The plumber came out and found hardened grout in one of the main pipes leading out of the house. He also went into the septic system and found a cloth handiwipe which voided our warranty. I told them I never used them and he said he had to report what he found. Funny thing, he dug up the septic first and discovered the handwipe before checking the popes for an obstruction. Be very careful who you deal with.
