This was going around facebook, some people said it works great, some said it didn't do a thing. Looks cheap enough to make so it may be worth trying.

Its all we use now. Neighbor still uses weed killer from the store. We stopped wasting money and our edges are way more dead than his. Weeds dont stand a chance. (dawn, vinegar and water) Maybe for those that it didnt work- they didnt use dawn. Dawn really is a superior soap compared to many brands- or they messed up the recipe, I really dont know. If I wasnt so lazy Id take a pic of my success story. It does really work.

Heres an extra intrawebz hint ppl may be wondering about- Cinnamon gets rid of ants. True story. Stop poisoning your world- there are natural things that actually work.

Are you interested in homemade because you're concerned about the environment or because of cost?

Roundup is very expensive, but I get a generic brand Gly Star from Kerby Agri. I use a lot of weed killer (sprayed 4 gallons tonight) and this stuff works well and goes a long way.

The cost. And I have animals.

What is your formula? Do you just as equal parts? Also what about it seeping into the dirt? I want to use it in my garden. I have some crab grass and dandelions Mostly.

A question. Is this mix a "weed" killer or a "vegetation" Killer. In other words, does this kill whatever you spray it on, or will it just kill weeds and leave the grass to grow?

That's one of the reasons I haven't used it, says "it will kill anything you spray it on". In the summer, it's so dry here, weeks without rain, my grass doesn't need any help dying.

I used it once and was not really overly impressed. The formula that I used was 1 gal of vinegar, 1 lb of salt and 1/4 cup of soap. The soap is really only a sticker to help the vinegar and salt stick to the plant and not run off so easily.

I used 1 gallon of vinegar, a quarter cup dish soap that I had mixed with a quarter cup water. Some ppl add salt- I left salt out. As already explained in this thread- the soap just helps it stick. Vinegar is the killer. I use it to fight crab/wire grass from eating and breaking up the black top drive way. I also will spray it on the edges of my flower beds beyond the small ditch that is around them. I will NOT spray within the flower beds- it kills all - not just weeds. The black top drive way is longggg- I feel better about spraying a lil soap and vinegar then I did poisons but Id be lying if I said it was perfectly safe for all uses. Results varying can be caused by sun and shade, how much water the weeds get and other factors I imagine.

Oh Ive heard straight pickle juice poured directly on weeds will kill them fast and hard- but Ive never tried it. (just more vinegar though, I guess)

Ok I used it around the flower beds not it in and it worked. Now what do you guys recommend for use INSIDE the flower bed?

It works. It kills vegetation period. But not as fast as overnight. Give it two nights :)

And there's nothing wrong with sea salt!

You are right on all counts.

Also, vinegar indoors erases the ants' trails so they can't find where they were going! My contractors have told me this.... two different companies over the years.

I've killed a piece of stubborn vegetation with straight bleach. It worked quickly. But I had to be willing to replace the surrounding soil afterward if I wanted to grow anything else, like grass.

Nothing works as well as old gasoline that you don't want to put in your mower.....
