Homeschooling?

There are more advantages than disadvantages to homeschooling. No bullies, no drama, no designer handbags etc... Our kids SOARED when we kept them home the 3 years of middle school. We re-built their confidence that was beaten down not only by foolish kids but by teachers/classes they were struggling with. It's allot easier to learn US History when you have a bigger "block" of time to explain it rather than between the bells.

Yes, there is a HUGE network between St. Mary's and Calvert for Homeschoolers and you can start at the public library and it's website. The first month we did it, I was kinda lost but eventually you pick up a pattern and it works for all. Like I last posted; if you don't think your able to teach a certain subject, you can find a tutor or you can even do small groups with other homeschoolers and use their mom/dad/tutor. That way the child has other child interaction. Our kids chose to go back to school so we let them decide when they wanted to and it was a very smooth transition. It was harder for me than them. Then went onto High School & College and EXCELLED.

Plus I'm gratefull that I had that time with them. It was allot of fun and I was blessed to be in a position that I could even bring them to work since I own my own business. Part of their curriculum was (business math) also.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

:howdy:

Thanks for the information. I have a meeting with the school tomorrow to discuss a few options.:yay:

Maybe the case! Seems like the couple times I have mentioned it they are quick to say they don't think it's the way to go....

Its because many home schooled children do not get the social aspect of going to a public/private school.

A few guys down the street from me got home schooled after we got out of elementary school. While they learned a ton more than I did, they had absolultely no social skills what so ever.

If you do opt to home school, get them involved in sports or boy scouts or -something- that will allow them to get away from you and dad and out with kids their own age for a while each day.

IMO, atleast.

That's very true.

And your correct in getting them involved in sports, camps, scouts etc. We did the same thing with ours. Parks n recs sports, trips and other activities. Her PE was sports and she actually taught herself spanish via CD's, Rosetta Stone and the neighbor.

I was fortunate enough to meet up with a good support group of other homeschool moms and everyone was VERY helpfull and if they didn't know they would have someone else help me.

Ours didnt have the social skills problem (but I have seen allot that do) but we kept them VERY involved with other kids also.

He is involved in Tae Kwon Do right now and runs a muck with his buddy on weekends... I would make sure to continue the social activities.

I think its unfair to state that home school children don't have any social skills. I know alot of children that attend public school and don't have any social skills. Its the parents responsibility, whether public or home schooled, to teach their children how to socialize. And yes I think it is something that needs to be taught. Just because kids are with other kids their age does not mean they will thrive.

Rolling my eyes at a private school snob who was trying to say that the reason I could not think straight was because I was taught in public school.

Oh, I'm sorry, and you had nothing negative to throw at me when you misunderstood my question...Don't dish out if you can't take...

I caught my error. I was exhausted as I am now. I am against homeschooling. Unless you are a degreed teacher, you have no business teaching children, even your own. It only provides a subpar education. But, that's just my opinion. I just know what I am going to do for my kids and it is to give them the best possible education. Homeschooling does not provide the best possible education.

What degree do you have? I've not met a teacher yet who has a degree to teach at all levels..

I have a degree that makes me able to teach my child into college level with the exception of English, my weak area. I do not have a teaching degree, but I did plenty of tutoring in Calc and other areas.

My husband does plenty of tutoring in Calc and other math "stuff" ...what I am asking is what kind of degree do you have? What is it?

Hey, I am not the one on here saying I could do it. I admit I couldn't/would not want to if I could. Just my opinion. I am seriously asking you what kind of degree you have that makes you "good to go" to teach EVERYTHING.

I'll tell you why you don't have to prove it to me... you can't. Period.

Good luck to your children. :yay:

Guess what,, I did not put this thread out saying what I could teach, personally I think it is a gift to be able to teach, I was asking for information on homeschooling because I never even thought I would have to consider it, but now I do. Oh, BTW,, I can prove it IF I choose to....
