What do y'all suggest for a May honeymoon?

Right now I'm considering
1. a cruise
2. a resort (Cancun, Jamaica, etc.)
3. Iceland
4. New Zealand
5. Hawaii
6. Lake Tahoe

Not sure what our budget is yet, but wondering if anyone had any suggestions or tips out there. I'm thinking something that's a little more off the beaten path would be nice. I don't want to be a "tourist", per se.
Although the press has been very negative, I would still suggest Aruba-- Truly fabulous people as well as a terrific island. It's really sad the Natiale Holloway story has diminished a perfectly safe and beautiful place.

4. New Zealand
:yay: I have friends who lived there for several years - in fact, both their kids were born there - and say it's absolutely spectacular. I've seen some of their pictures and have to agree. It was the setting for all of the LOTR movies too. I'd love to go there myself someday.

I think you'll probably have to figure that out before you get your heart set on a trip. You definitely do not want to cut corners on your honeymoon, so wherever you go, you should be able to commit to it. If that means you only have the money to spend a week in a cabin in the Poconos, so be it. You don't want to go on a gorgeous vacation and not be able to enjoy any of the perks. That being said, if you don't want to spend a buttload of money, but want to be pampered, I'd say go on a cruise or to an all-expenses paid resort. That way you know how much money you're going to be spending up front, and aside from drinks (in the instance of the cruise, all inclusives usually include drinks) and souvenirs, you've already paid for your vacation. If money is no object and you can afford it without biatching about how much you're spending the whole time you're there, go for the bigger vacations (Iceland, New Zealand, etc.). It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and if you can commit to it, you'll have a wonderful time.

Damn. I would have liked ANY of those.

But we had a great time on our cruise. We took a Royal Caribbean cruise that left from Baltimore for 11 days in the Eastern Caribbean. It suited us great. We met a LOT of friendly people, had a lot of fun. We might have enjoyed things MORE if....

We'd researched ahead of time so we could just do our OWN thing rather than pay for specific excursions from the ship (especially St. Maarten and St. Thomas - where our dinner table guests told us about things THEY'D done) and

Researched about locations on the ship - we mistakenly thought that cabins near the main areas would be noisy. Hell no. In your cabin, you can't even hear people in the hallway. And near the front of the ship, you run the risk of hearing the stabilizer fins crash against choppy surf - sounds like THUNDER.

and

Spent MORE time IN PORT and less time at sea. At sea was nice poolside and casino time - but - it would have been MORE fun doing things on the islands.

and

Saved a *little* more money and planned ahead for the really cool planned excursions - I think swimming with dolphins or parasailing might have been fun.

I don't mind the "touristy" thing. People KNOW you're a tourist. They count on it.

NO EFFING WAY WOULD I GO ON A CRUISE!!! I just finished watching Titanic for the first time this weekend, followed by The Poiseden (sp?) Adventure Sunday night. :lmao: :kissmyass:

Cancun is A LOT of fun. I repeat, A LOT of fun.
I don't know about a lengthy trip though, after long wedding plans (for me) and a LONG flight for a honeymoon.

I think Tahoe would be a perfect choice for me, but then I've been married before... Iceland, New Zealand and Hawaii are, to me, preparations that I would want to take time for, in and of themselves... As their own special events, say for an anniversary... JMHO :yay:

Iceland, the land of "Fire and Ice", that's what marriage is all about anyway, the hot and cold of a man and wife. And Sleuth don't worry, go anywhere on your list and I bet you get tagged as a tourist.
