Ford just announced they are scrapping EVs altogether....nothing but a money pit. Not sure how much $$ they got from uncle though.
I think it was a bit more nuanced that that.

And this is the Lesson of Tesla. You need it all in house, vertically integrated in stand alone factories. And you need to SCALE, SCALE, SCALE. They, like so many makers, dicked around with third party vendors for so long and trying to convert platforms and factories. Simply cannot make money that way. And you need to be willing to eat the production stand up losses for a while. But your plan needs to make money on every single vehicle. If your plan is to not make money on the first ones just to get product out there, you fail.

Ford most likely has not made a dollar on any Mach-Es or Lightnings. Is GM making anything on the Hummer or Silverado EVs? They cost a ton, but have massive battery packs.

This chart is a bit interesting. Roll over the dots to see who got what when and where they are regarding payback.

"Scrapping EVs altogether" is not the same as scrapping one particular planned model.

May need to make a turn towards a hybrid vehicle.

The engine will run on gasoline and the lights, radio and seat warmers can run on electricity.

You can’t thwart Ned Flanders optimism.

You did read the part where I said they might kill it all, right? No telling if any of the legacy makers make it. You could read that into what they said. But those words don't appear in the press release.

My opinion? I don't think Ford or GM make it. But it will take them a while to die.
