...ruck up; What about starting to shoot these mf'ers??? A chopper could shoot down and through the engine block. It would come to a halt fairly soon. A second officer in the car could shoot up the gas tank.

I want these bastards stopped ASAP.

:yay: That would get my vote. The coast guard has developed the technology for use on drug runners.

Gas tanks shots aren't likely to work - too many variables, and too much risk of hitting somebody other than your target.

The only way to do effective car to car shooting would be with a stabilized mount, but with that cost you couldn't have many of them. You'd have to get lucky and have one when and where you needed it. Not much chance of that.

Even having the right helo and right personnel in the right place at the right time would be difficult. It might be feasible in places like L.A., but I don't see the MSP ever having the capability.

That's one...

If it can be done without taking out an innocent then I'm all for it :yay: Even if the person DIDN'T rob the bank, the fleeing put people at risk and somebody should be shot for that.

Of course, I have always been a proponent for Soylent Green, so I may not be representing the majority with this response.

...time to up armor, boys and girls. Time to ENFORCE some traffic law.

...you put a man in a chopper with .308 ap, right through the engine block, into the ground.

Come on shooters, is that feasible? Seems to me hitting the hood of a car is a reasonable shot from 100-200 yards up.

I read it was intentional. He knew he'd get caught, so he went out dramatically.

Well I hate to say this but I wish he had made his dramatic exit with a pole. The poor driver of the white car didn't deserve what he got by any means just because this idiot wanted his 15 seconds of fame.

I know some state used to use that. CA maybe? Called them blockbusters and I think it may have been a 50.

Whatever...

...but it's time to put the hammer on these freaking POS mf'ers. They are running amok with a very, very lethal weapon. No more video from helo's waiting to show you the latest inevitable carnage on TV. No more chasing them, doubling and tripling and quadrupling the threat to the citizenry.

We've got large numbers of combat experienced chopper pilots. We've got large numbers of expert, combat experienced shooters coming out of the service.

Time to act.

I've been saying it for years.. and especially since the 'runner' that took out the ambulance in Calvert County.. You run, you die.. A car is a weapon, and the minute you run it;s attempted murder every car you pass on the road.

Shoot the car, shoot the driver.. I don't care, but they need to be stopped.

Screw the single shot through the engine block.. a stabilized platform shooting 25mm.. Riddle the car.

...we don't even have to go so far as to shoot the driver. Very, very tough I think to hit him and to put that kind of finality on what is a suspect, not a convict, at that point. I will be happy, very happy, if we just take the very reasonable step of just shooting the damn engine. Chase over. Or at least that part.

I don't care about taking out the "suspect." He is wielding a deadly weapon, and that justifies deadly force.

My only concern is that the deadly force must be used in a way to minimize collateral damage. If he doesn't have a possible innocent in the car, and if bystanders won't be hit, blow him up.

The Coast Guard HITRON does pretty much what you are talking about using a .50 cal sniper rifle. Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron That would probably be the best choice for taking out the engine of a car also.
