Horse Shows?

jumper classes

Were there more jumper entries this time?
I will say, in talking to my girls, we would have more horses and riders there if the classes were a bit less. We have some with multiple horses and some that would do more classes if they could afford it.
I know what it costs to run a show and esp costs more to run a nice show like at Country Haven. Personally (maybe for next year) I would drop prices a little and go for more entries. Would be a little risk though. My riders looove to have competition in their classes and would love to see these classes fill!
We will likely see you all at the next show!

I had a really great time at the Country Haven Series Saturday. Its a great place to bring young horses because the tree line protects it and kinda gives the horses a natural barrier. I also loved that the parking was a fenced off area with a gate, so I didn't have to worry about what if my horse pulled away from the trailer.

The road down to the show was graded and much easier to get down this time.

I will be bringing more horses to do the jumper classes next month.

After checking into shows in the area the Country Haven Show Series (not Schooling Show) has a four show series and gives me more for my money. When I figured in the gas it would cost to ship to a show further away it made up for the cost of the classes. Thing is Equilibrium is $15 a class, AMIT is $10pre-entry/$14 post entry, Riverviews Jumper show was $8pre-entry/$10 post entry. Country Havens seems to be right in the middle. For my money I get a quality judge (which you don't have to pay for with GVF or Riverviews schooling jumper show), a large flat ring with great footing, almost new hunter & jumper courses, and lovely series end awards. Sorry I will say the extra $1 or $2 is well worth it. That is my opinion.

Other then the Add/Back classes, which you have to pay double for, do MSA, BEST, or SMHA offer 50% of the class entries back in prize money to the exhibitors? I don't believe they do. Yet some of the posters complaining about the entry fees at Country Haven go to the shows @ PG where the cost to enter is even higher. If the shows at PG & Country Haven did offer 50% of each class back in prize money how could they pay the expenses to run the shows & the series end awards? Country Haven seems to be trying to offer this, but instead some local people want to fault them for it. Honestly I'm surprised how certain farms in this area don't support one another. Instead it is just the opposite.

We were not at all complaining about the entry fees. Like I said in the other thread we wanted to go but did not make it there. We were just saying we didn't feel the prize money was fair. Also, like I said in the other thread, GVF did pay each of her judges to come in and judge.

GVF's was a schooling show as well. Probably much smaller than that one is going to be. I also agree the first place person should atleast be able to get their entry fee back. The entry fees are quite pricey- charging near what the bigger schooling shows charge. This is the problem with schooling shows nowadays.

Sounds like that is complaining about the prices.

I could care less about the "prize money". At those shows at the PGEC we def limit our classes due to money. My girls would love to do more classes, but cose usually gets in the way. At least Country Haven doesnt have a $20-$40 office fee like some of the circuits at PG. We quit showing MSA because that was a bit much.
Anyways...So how many jumper class riders were there at this show? I was hoping there would be more. Hopefully there will be more at the next show too. Like I said we like COMPETITION! Not worried about "prize money" unless it is an add back type deal and there are enough entries to make it worth it.

Not complaining. Just saying they might be a bit pricey. That's not complaining. It's called having an opinion, which I thought we were all allowed to have or is that only a priviledge certain people are allowed?

Definition of "to complain":
To express feelings of pain, dissatisfaction, or resentment.

Okie dokie. Then, it is my opinion that your post could be inferred as having a negative opinion of the entry fee price. Unless "pricey" is a positive conotation?

How's that? You weren't complaining about the fees, you were expressing a negative opinion of them.

Correct, it was an expression of a negative opinion- not snide or rude either. It's a negative opinion that I have of even SMHA, MSA, etc....everyone is quite "pricey" in these hard economic times.

The turn out for the entire show was almost double what it was for our first show in September. We didn't have as many events to compete with in October as we did in September. The jumper classes still have some lower numbers, but exhibitors that showed at the Country Haven Show Series this past week are planning on bring more Jumpers back to the next show. We had four in the first jumper division & two in the second. Had to cancel the jumper division for 2'9"/3' and 3'3"/3'6". Riders ask for the higher jumps, but when it comes to showing up they don't come. If the interest keeps growing for the jumpers we will continue to offer them at our shows.

I understand last weekend you were already busy doing an event on Sunday so we understood why you couldn't make the show on Saturday. Hope you can make it to the CHS Show on November 13th & December 4th. :howdy:

Also attached a picture of the series end awards. The blanket is for Champion and the Quilt saddle pad is for Reserve Champion.
