Hot Pot Retaurant

What a surprise!!!! I have lived near this place for ten years and never ventured in because it does not look like much from the outside and the reputation the previous owner had earned was bad. Wow, talk about not judging a book by its cover!! There are two other local Chinese food restaurants within 3 miles of this one, and they don't even come close!! I have eaten so many times at the other two because that was what I thought were my only choices. Well the other two will NEVER be frequented by me again as long as this place is around. My wife and I couldn't help but be stunned by the quality and taste of the food. We both agreed we had never had better or fresher tasting Chinese than Hot Pot. Really folks I can't say enough about how this restaurant is so good! They offer carry-out and I think delivery but really do yourself a favor and eat inside. It is nicely decorated and very clean inside. They obviously take great pride in their business and it really shines. The Wonton soup noodles were still firm and tasty not soggy and mushy like ever other place. The egg rolls are made to order in house by hand and served hot and fresh. The egg rolls have a unique and delicious flavor, nothing like the pre-made, pre-packaged egg rolls from most Chinese restaurants. My wife raved about how the chicken in her Lo Main was the most tender chicken she had ever eaten. The egg foo yung had a flavor that was somehow "light" tasting and too good to be true. The fried rice.........perfection. Last but not least was the dessert. The waitress recommended the fried bananas and we agreed to sample them. OH MY GOD!!! I would never have thought frying a banana could be such a wonderful dessert. I was heavenly. The only thing was the wife felt it could benefit from a light sprinkle of powdered sugar, but while I agree that would kick up the sweetness a notch I was fine with the natural sweetness. We have been back 4 or 5 times in the last two months just trying different foods and they are all prepared to perfection. The biggest thing I like is that they want your input on the food. When my wife asked about the powdered sugar for the bananas they did not have any that time but have since purchased it for future visits. That is true customer service. If you like a dish prepared slightly different than just tell them and they will do it. Also if they offer a suggestion to try something, take it! Everything they suggest has been awesome. They really want your business and try hard to earn it. Having never stepped foot in the place prior to two months ago it ranks among our top 5 restaurants anywhere!

Folks I am not the kind of person to write reviews. I just had to after eating here lately. It's for two reasons I write this for everyone....selfishness and helpfulness. Selfishness because I love the food quality, atmosphere and service and want it to be around for a long time. Helpfulness because when you see a business that tries so hard to earn your business and make sure you leave a satisfied customer you just want to help them succeed. Just give this little place a try. I am positive you will not regret it and most likely will have a new favorite, quiet place to go for a wonderful meal. Then please help spread the word so we make sure they are successful.

P.S.- The owners are Annie and her brother ( Annie told us but I cannot remember his name). Tell Annie Lorren and Tracy recommend the place to you. (No, we do not get a kick-back or free food if you do)

Somebody else on here said they were really good. Too far away for me to go just for Chinese, though.

I grabbed a carry out many months ago and don't recall it warranting a review like this. It was so so at best.

Now having said that, carry out is not the same as eating in by any means.

Huh, I drive by it everyday thinking it looks shady and run down. I guess you shouldn't always judge a book by it's cover. Thanks for the review- I'll give it a shot! I loves me some Chinese food!

Since you went through all the trouble of making a new account and posting about your restaurant, the least you could do is include where it's located. I've never heard of it.

Sorry you think that way about the fact that I made a new account. I could not remmber what my old account was or which email address I had it set up under so I just created a new one. I think my old account was Seahawk or Seahawk60 or something like that. I honestly have no stake in the restaurant other than loving the food and wanting it to stay open. It is in the Charlotte Hall/Mechanicsville area kinda on the corner of 5/235 and route 6. Its on the southbound side across the street from Cartwrights Texaco. Even if you don't believe me about not being connected to the restaurant give it a try what do you have to lose? Then you can come back and say I was telling the truth;).

:yay: If I get up that way, I might just do that. But honestly, I had no idea where this was located. Now I do. Might even try it out, I love good Chinese Food.

If you love good Chinese food remember that I was serious about the suggestion thing also. If you like your food cooked a certain way just tell them and they will work to get it right.

I live close by and was super excited, till I had it delivered... VERY VERY dissappointed. Maybe dine in is better, but I wouldn't chance it because it just was so poor. The fried rice was dry and crispy and the general tso chicken was soggy, tasted like a sweet and sour sauce instead of a spicy genreal tso that I had ordered. The noodles fell apart in the soup.

Was this since the new owners? I know years ago under the old owners we tried it once and never ordered again. I love that the noodles are al dente in the Wonton when we ordered them. Its funny you mentioned the sauce because thats one of the things the owner had mentioned in trying to satisfy different tastes. Since one person wants it really spicy and the next will complain its too spicy, they actually do not mind if you tell them you want it more or less spicy. I am sure if you tell them they will try to meet what you want.

Do you really think anyone believes you have no association with this restaurant?

I don't care if anyone believes if I have an association or not. Be a skeptic, I don't mind. I just want a great place to stay open. There are enough crappy places in SOMD with lousy service that I just really liked the joint. Outside of being a customer I have no stake in the success of Hot Pot. I will offer you the chance to disprove me. Reasearch the restaurant, go by the reataurant and ask, or whatever you need to do since you think I'm lying. Make your case on facts. Then when you find your wrong at least buy my next meal there.:yum:

Now that you are a member of the forum, do you not have any opinions on any other topics other than this restaurant?

5 posts now, and they are all about this particular place. :really:

I think we should go and special order a whole bunch of stuff and make it really complicated. Then, we can come back and complain about how horrible our customer service was after they advertise they do special orders.

When are you available for this test?

It was within the past month or so. :eyebrow:

I don't know what to say then. I guess thats the advantage of these forums, you get to have multiple experiences show up so everyone gets to make their own decision or trying it or not. We have been more then happy with the restaurant. I will mention it to the owner if you would like. I can suggest they ask how much spice/heat someone likes when they place an order. Or just ask for Annie herself and tell her what you want, she has been very good to us. Have a blessed day!:flowers:
