hotel stay with a 5 month old

Next month, we're taking the baby up to NY for a few days. It'll be his first overnight trip away and we'll be staying at a hotel. Do you normally use the crib at the hotel and just bring your own sheets? Or do you recommend bringing the pack & play, buying a travel crib, etc?

The last thing we want is a cranky little boy. He loves sleeping in his crib and rarely even sleeps in his car seat while I'm driving anymore. Can't wait to have all my friends up there meet him, only a few have been able to make it down here so far.

My experience w/the hotel cribs is that you just never know what you're going to get. Sometimes they're rickety and I'd be afraid to put a child in there. I'd definitely just bring the pack 'n play.

When mine were that small, we there was no have "pack-n-play" so we used a drawer lined with blankets. Of course, we were lucky in that our two would sleep just about anywhere!

That's what I was kinda thinking, thanks. I think of the beds in hotels, hit or miss with comfort level, etc. I guess it would be no different with a crib.

Awwww, how cute! My son is a pretty good sleeper but he just doesn't like to sleep all the places he did when he was younger like on laps, chests, couches, in his car seat. But in his crib, he's been sleeping through the night since he turned 2 months. It could make for a long drive back home if hubby & I get no sleep up there because our little angel won't sleep, lol.

We've used hotel provided cribs before but we always use our sheets so they could be sleeping in their "smell". You all know what I'm saying.

If we did use the hotel crib we'd definitely use his sheets. And bring his CD to fall asleep to, etc. Anything to keep him happy. Everyone knows an unhappy baby can mean unhappy parents.

I think it depends on the hotel. We've only had one bad experience and that was at the Princess Royale in O.C. Their PnP was disgusting! Places like Holiday Inn and Marriott always have very clean PnPs.

I always bring our own sheet, blanket, and one of his favorite stuffed animals (although that may not pertain to a 5 month old LOL). When we went to Vegas for a week, we found a local company that rented cribs so we did that.

Why me??
We went to alot of places this summer and we just brought our pack and play. My cousin's rented a crib last year when we went on vacation and it did not look safe.

Take your pack n play. How does he do with it now? May want to put him down in it for a couple days prior to the trip to get him used to it.

We always take the pack n play. She's used to it, so she's comfy, and we know she's only sleeping in our dirt!

He's too heavy for the bassinette part of the pack n play. He loved it when he was a newborn, we had it in our room with us. Once he got too big for it, we started having him always sleep in his crib in the nursery. I did tell hubby that I'm going to try having him nap in the pack n play to get him used to it. He hasn't been using it.

Thanks again, everyone, for all the replies. I think I'll bring the pack n play, I'm a little ocd about cleanliness.

Sure, the hotel rugs are always so nice & clean.

He's just starting to try to crawl but can't yet. It's so cute to watch.

Cory has been grabbing everything too, tried to pull my eye out earlier today & was about to rip my lip off. That came outta nowhere, too! :killingme

Here I am, thinking of all the things we need to cram into the truck for just a few days away and you have twins to pack for plus a 4 yr old. Hope you have a big vehicle! And a lot of patience for a week with the MIL!

Must be such a relief! 4 is such a fun age.
