North Beach Fire Website has the story.
It is worth noting that this house is on B Street atop of the cliffs that overlook the Chesapeake Beach boardwalk. This leads to winds that are often considerably higher than those just a mile or so inland.
Welcome to North Beach Volunteer Fire Department
5/11/2008 - Once the rain picked up in the Calvert Area everyone in the county ran their share of trees down, trees into houses, and flooding conditions. During these calls in the beach area we ran a first due box (nothing involved), a priority 1 medical and a building collapse with 2 subjects trapped. At approximately 2245 hours Special Box 105 was sounded in the 7400 block of B st. for the building collapse. Chief 1(Freesland) Eng 11(B.Conner) Eng 12(Capt OcConner) Tower 1(Cummings) Rescue 1(Chief 1a Gibson) and Amb 18 responded to the call. Once on scene crews found a 3 story house under construction that fell onto a 1 story house next door trapping its 2 residents. Co.1 crews immediately made their way to Side B and found where the victims were trapped. These crews under the guidance from Chief 6b(Montgomery) were able to free one victim but found the other 12 feet into the collapsed home and pinned at his legs. Once setting up lighting for the incident crews were forced to wait for the mutual aide Collapse Rescue Team (DCFD BFC of Special Ops,Squad 3 Eng Co.15 and Amb.15) Once they arrived on scene North Beach Crews worked behind DCFD crews to assist the trapped victim who eventually self extricated himself 90 mins after the initial call. Both residents were transported to CMH to be stabalized prior to transport to an appropriate trauma center.
