House Collapse?

High EGT

Gort! Klaatu barada nikto
Was talking to relative this morning who proclaimed a building collapse some where in the area, but location unknown. At the time she was at the Calvert Memorial Hospital ER with a sick kid and overheard technicians describing patient injuries as a result of a building collapse due to the weather. Anybody got info on this?

Yep, Chesapeake Beach..next door to my son's g/f's boss. Said house "lifted up" and fell on top of another house and they had to bring in heavy equipment from up town to get the people out of the house. The neighbor said it was like a tornado.

Where are those metal brackets that are supposed to be required on all the connections? Like in the Roof Trusses.. etc..

Or are these not required here?

Could be a legacy house. I know mine doesn't have them, built in '72.

They said that house has been under construction for 15 years.
Everytime the county gets on him about the construction not moving on the house, he goes there and does a little something. Sounds to me like it was an accident waiting to happen. This was told to me by someone who lives on C Street where the incident was.

North Beach Fire Website has the story.

It is worth noting that this house is on B Street atop of the cliffs that overlook the Chesapeake Beach boardwalk. This leads to winds that are often considerably higher than those just a mile or so inland.

Welcome to North Beach Volunteer Fire Department

5/11/2008 - Once the rain picked up in the Calvert Area everyone in the county ran their share of trees down, trees into houses, and flooding conditions. During these calls in the beach area we ran a first due box (nothing involved), a priority 1 medical and a building collapse with 2 subjects trapped. At approximately 2245 hours Special Box 105 was sounded in the 7400 block of B st. for the building collapse. Chief 1(Freesland) Eng 11(B.Conner) Eng 12(Capt OcConner) Tower 1(Cummings) Rescue 1(Chief 1a Gibson) and Amb 18 responded to the call. Once on scene crews found a 3 story house under construction that fell onto a 1 story house next door trapping its 2 residents. Co.1 crews immediately made their way to Side B and found where the victims were trapped. These crews under the guidance from Chief 6b(Montgomery) were able to free one victim but found the other 12 feet into the collapsed home and pinned at his legs. Once setting up lighting for the incident crews were forced to wait for the mutual aide Collapse Rescue Team (DCFD BFC of Special Ops,Squad 3 Eng Co.15 and Amb.15) Once they arrived on scene North Beach Crews worked behind DCFD crews to assist the trapped victim who eventually self extricated himself 90 mins after the initial call. Both residents were transported to CMH to be stabalized prior to transport to an appropriate trauma center.

The Engine and Squad were special called to Calvert County MD. For a house that has collapsed with people trapped. The team along with the Special operations Chief mounted up and head towards the beach. Units from Calvert on the scene @ 13th Street and C street with a 3 story house under construction collapsed on a single story house with 2 people trapped inside. As the units from DCFD were in route one victim self extricated her self from the structure. One victim still trapped inside the house the Cave in task force went to work on Side D of the house and removed the male patient from the structure and turned the victim over to waiting EMS. DCFD urban search and rescue dog along with Sergeant Holmes searched the rest of the structure which turned up negative. The team returned to DC around 0130 hours.

This is a bit off topic, but is there a way to find out who the actual builder of a home is? Specifically, one built in 1970...
