Scalise Trying to Undermine Jordan Speakership Bid Ahead of 2nd Ballot

CNN’s Annie Grayer noted on X that the majority leader would not commit to helping Jordan secure the 17 outstanding votes he needs for the top House job. This is despite Jordan requesting his aid, as the House has not had a Speaker since now-former Speaker Kevin McCarthy was removed on October 3. Sources on Capitol Hill have confirmed Grayer’s reporting to Breitbart News.

As she puts it, sources say Scalise, who failed in his bid for the gavel, is “Not being a team player.”

Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle has further reported that Scalise, “who failed in his own speakership bid last week is the leader of the subversion against the Republican conference and Speaker-designee Jim Jordan,” citing sources familiar with the matter.

Kinzinger: I’m ‘Very Proud’ of Jordan Holdouts, Will Be Hard for Him to Become Speaker

Kinzinger said, “I’m impressed that there’s 20. I was worried this morning because a lot of the hard opposition to Jordan had been capitulating in the last 24 hours, like Mike Rogers from Alabama, Ann Wagner from Missouri. They were ‘hell no’ until they were all in. This is embarrassing for Jim Jordan.”

He continued, “I think this is going to be hard for him to fix. I mean the only thing I can imagine is if he starts cutting deals and those deals include things that he’s never supported in the past. For instance, if he says I’m committed to bringing Ukraine funding on the floor he may be able to peel off one or two of those. If he says I’m committed to whatever it is, I don’t know, maybe he can get to his number, but I think this is hard.”

Kinzinger added, “The easiest thing to do if you’re a Republican is to vote for Jim Jordan the first time and go away the second time. I think you could see even more peel away on the second round, or he consolidates. Who really knows? I think it’s going to be very hard for him to become speaker now.

Pelosi: Jordan as Speaker Would Be ‘Appalling,’ Our Democracy Is at Stake

Pelosi said, “These House Republicans were just —they didn’t have any interest in the peaceful transfer of power. They were in denial about the election. And for all of the horror of that day, the violence, the desecration of the Capitol, this temple of democracy in the world, the violation of our Constitution, to have that day on the acceptance of the Electoral College vote. The whole thing, the assault on our democracy, after we went back to the Capitol, took the vote, overwhelmingly, the Republicans voted against accepting the results of the Electoral College. This person that they’re putting forth to be speaker of the House, it’s just appalling.”

She continued, “Mr. Jordan and his friends do a real disservice to their members on the Republican side to call upon them once, maybe more, we’ll see tomorrow, to vote for such a person for speaker. They’re going to have to answer to their conscience, to their children, to their own legacy for doing something so disreputable.”

She added, “This person that they’re nominating, Jordan, doesn’t have any legislation, never passed legislation. His big bill is to criminalize a woman’s right to choose with no exceptions, with no exceptions—the harshest possible position. Again, not accepting the results of the election but voting. Again, you see these people voting for him when he voted against disaster assistance when fires came to the area when storms and hurricanes. That’s why you see some people voting against him from New York, but there are many others voting against the interest of their constituents because you know why? The instigator of the insurrection, Donald Trump, has asked them to.”

Are they all going to hold their breath until McCarthy is voted back in?

The very fact that Hakeem and his puppets on the Democrat party and the Trump hating, Democrat ass kissing RINO's do not want Jordan tells me that he is the right man for the job. I hope he gets it, he is a fighting republican, something we need a lot more of.

🔥 Jim Jordan lost his initial vote for speaker yesterday by -17 votes. It wasn’t really even close, and the New York Times celebrated in barely-concealed glee by running a whole series of stories and an excited op-ed headlined, “Jim Jordan Is a Lousy Strongman.

image 4.png

The op-ed’s author, waxing almost rhapsodic, couldn’t wait to describe the internal struggle between Establishment Republicans and conservatives as a (mixed) metaphor for the Republican Party writ large:

Eventually, one assumes, a new speaker will emerge. But the entire circus has already laid bare the dark flaw at the heart of this Congress: The Republican conference is failing as a democratic entity.

Unlike the op-ed’s author, I think this is completely healthy. Let them argue and negotiate the contours of the Speaker’s job. Take as long as they need. Meanwhile, no new aid packages are going out; which itself is a blessing justifying the delay. Jordan isn’t even out of the running yet, because he’s only lost one vote. The prior Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, only won the job after 14 prior rounds of voting.

Jordan and his allies can easily continue working the floor, voting, and allowing the pace of world events to lend its mounting pressure.

But not according to Establishment Media! Media took the opportunity to escalate the fractious Speaker contest to the hysterical level of we should consider ditching democracy altogether:

Look out below!

Or on the other hand, Republicans could just elect Trump as the new Speaker of the House, and then American democracy would really be veering out of control.

John Boehner receives one vote. I can just imagine him in his lazy boy with a cigarette in one hand and a glass of merlot in the other watching this unfold.

So Jordan's done. Even fewer votes this time.

Who's next? Should Scalise try again? He dropped out before a vote on the floor.

I was just wondering the same thing. The Pro Temp dude said something fancy about recess. I have a mental picture of the entire class going outside for a rowdy game of deathly dodgeball. No penalties, no rules, no subs Who's ever left standing can be speaker.

Kinda like a rollerball game. I think I'd pay to see that.
