We have lived in our house for 4 months. All has been great until last week. Our 8 yr old male ( not neutered ) starting urinating in the house. We went away for the weekend and our neighbors watched the dogs. Only thing that happened while we were gone was they didn't eat or drink normally. I expected that. He's already been checked for uti- negative. My husband is furious. Took us a long time to buy our first home and he will not let the dog ruin it. Any ideas? I have to follow him around constantly which is far from ideal. TIA.

With the combination of the new house, and you going away for the weekend, I wonder if the Pup was traumatized by that? If possible, give him some time to get over that.

Just seems odd since he waited four months to start. Can they develop separation anxiety? Ive looked at the symptoms and he doesn't seem to match them. Actually out of the two dogs he's the only one I'd trust to not chew the house up if left alone. Vet mentioned if a nearby female is in heat some dogs start marking territory.

Neuter him.

I was wondering when someone was going to post that.

GB, is he not neutered for a reason? The general consensus is that unneutered dogs are more prone to peeing all over the place. He's 8 years old and it sounds like a combination of new house and you all going away sent him into a tizzy.

Did your neighbors bring a dog with them when they were feeding yours? You mentioned dogs, is it a male also? Sounds like he is marking his domain, they even mark if it is a neutered male or spayed female in the house. Just trying to assert their domanance over the rest of the pack. Put him in a crate when you do not want to follow him around all day.
When we have dog visitors, there always is a piss contest, it's mine, no let me pee over that, it is mine! I agree with the neutering suggestion.

No. No reason. Just procrastination I guess. I figured if it was the house it would have started right away, not a delayed reaction. I thought he was mad cause we left. He's been around the neighbors numerous times. They always bring them treats. I didn't think he'd. "mind".

Not that I'm aware of.
They do have 3 dogs. I've only seen one outside of it's kennel but in their yard. It's a female. I have 2. One male and one female. She is spayed.

wonder if crating him would help. Soon as he comes out of crate take him outside to wee-wee.

He's in there most of the day (while we are at work or gone). Also at night since this mess started. Always goes out asap when we get home. He could spend hours outside with us marking every tree we have on our 4 acres and still come in and pee on something.

I don't know why he started and probably never will. All I do know is I need to break him of this otherwise he will continue to be crated or put outside all the time. I like it when the dogs hang with us in the house. I don't want him to be exiled from the family :(

Just put some diapers on him. Make the girls change the diapers. They would love that.

My neutered dog likes to pee everywhere as well. Mostly it's just in the garage, even if he's left in there for a small amount of time. Both dogs eat in the garage and I can't leave my little guy out there longer for 10 minutes on any given day because he'll pee. If he's left on the back deck he'll do the same. He's just an ####### like that. So, I confine him to his crate more times than not.

If he (or another dog) had an accident once in a certain spot, he could smell it and keep wanting to pee there.

Not sure. We replaced all the carpet before we brought the dogs here. He always pees on the kitchen trash can and the laundry room door. Thank God for linoleum.

Did you take him to the Vet to see if he might have a Urinary Infection? Could there be a Dog in your area that is in Heat? I've heard that Dogs can smell another in Heat up to 5 miles away.
