Housetraining regression

We got back from a long weekend away and now our dog has regressed in his housetraining. I caught him lifting his leg on the footboard of our bed and apparantly he had accidents while we were gone.
Although he was cared for while we were gone, I know his normal routine was disrupted. He is also very much "my" dog and surely missed me as much as I missed him.
Other than re-establishing his normal routine, how can I stop his accidents? And how can I prevent this from happening again the next time we travel?

Our male dog did the same thing. I took him to the vet to rule out urinary/bladder infection since he had never done that before. That was negative. Vet said that a dog in heat can be sensed up to a few miles away. That maybe that's what he smelled and was marking his territory.

I never let him leave the room without supervision, even to eat/drink. Otherwise he'd pee on something on his way back (door, trash can, etc). I had to crate him at night for almost a week. When he'd go out to potty, I'd go with him and praise him just like when he was a pup (good boy or good potty). It took about 7-10 days then he stopped. We've gone away twice since then and it hasn't happened again

Are the people/person who cared for him new?

No one new- our daughter and some friends he knows pretty well watched him. It was the first time we'd both gone away and left him in the 7 months we've owned him. I think he got off routine and was upset! He is on me like glue right now.

That could be it. Maybe just some potty training reinforcement and extra loving will do the trick :) My husband was ready to put his butt outside :/

Good luck.

that is how my saint is with me(glued to me) she gets royally upset if i have to leave her behind and she barks and cries the whole time i am gone. when i go out of town i normally leave her with my stepfather and give him her potty routine and eating schedule so he keeps her on it. the dog is pretty good about letting you know she needs to go out she whines and if u don't respond in a timely manner she barks and then she starts jumping around like a nut til you get her out. I have learned from the 4yrs of having her when she starts whining u get up and get her out asap. Did your daughter know the puppies routine with when he goes out and gets fed etc? Do you think one of her friends did something to the dog that could have made him revert back to old behaviours like tease him or ignore him when hes trying to tell you something or did they leave him for hours on out with no potty break that could be another thing that caused the issues too..as he probably had to go and nobody home to let him out so he peed inside.

My Boston would take two steps forward, and three steps back in the House Breaking for the first few months we had her. Then by the time she was 8 months old, something clicked, and she's full trained now. It's a PIA, but it doesn't last forever. This is funny...My Granddaughter and I went Shopping the other day. We were gone for about 4 hours. When I got home, I went to the Bathroom, and saw a pile of POOP in my Bath Tub.!! Poor Doggie had to go.

vrai the max i am ever gone from bruno is 3 to 4hrs. if i am going to be gone longer than that I get my stepfather to take care of her as he comes down here everyday and if it happens the 3 of us (me mom and s/d) go somewhere then the max shes ever had to hold it was 8hrs but then when i got home it was a race to get outside as quick as possible but i have only done that 1x to her as I am good about having a backup plan if we are going to be away so the dog doesn't have to go all day/night without a pee break. I know for sure the dog isn't going to be happy with me on friday as i have to leave here about 810 and won't be back til probably sometime after 10 or 1030 depending on what the doctor does when i go in and then i will have to turn around and leave again about noon for 1hr or so poor dog is going to have alot of alone time which she hates shes is glued to me like rubber.

I doubt anyone was mean to him. Probably anxiety and a different operating schedule. I hope he improves fast, have already gotten out the carpet cleaner once today!

Will probably look into kenneling next trip. That way he won't associate his stress with home.

or better yet hire a pet sitter one who will spend the night with him and come back a couple times during the day to let him out and spend time with him and give him the love and attention he needs. Maybe your daughter didn't give him the love and attention he is used to maybe she didn't give him any love at all and yelled at him when he did something she didn't like etc.

Dogs are very sensitive. Do you have a brother or sister who is older than your daughter who could come and stay with him and keep him to his schedule eating etc?.

As I said with me when i go away i give my stepfather a whole list of what needs to be done. her feeding schedule her potty schedule and i even tell him where to take here here at the store to go potty as she has a few spots she likes. He always makes time to take her for a walk when i am not here to wear her out so she will sleep some. I think he spoils her rotten but just doesn't tell me he does so.

My dog cries, and i mean CRIES, whenever my husband leaves. I think it is pretty rude. I always yell, "Excuse me, I am still here, jerk face." I get he's her favorite, but I'm the one that walks her, feeds her, gives her treats and plays with her all day; she should be a little more considerate. (Of course I am also the one that brushes her teeth, cleans her ears, and gives her baths, and since she views these as forms of torture I might be erasing and other good done.)

Oh and when we go away there are no instructions. People we give her to know how to take care of dogs. We give them food, ear cleanser just in case, bowls, treats, and a blanket. They can walk her or let her out or feed her whenever they want, she's pretty flexible. She does seem to get a little sad while we are gone, but doesn't act out.

only reason i leave instructions is bruno is on a set feeding schedule and if you break it and don't feed her near the time shes supposed to be fed she gets sick as she doesn't eat much in the morning. in the instructions i leave the vets contact information incase she has to go to the vet..I also pack up her food in premeasured bags so she only gets whats in that bag and that way she doesn't have a lot of waste of food as her bowl has to be washed daily.
