Smart dog.
Just found out she knows how to open and close the gates.
I was out working in the front yard out of her sight, next thing I see is a dog that needs some attention.
I put her back in the yard, sneak around the house and watch.

Could not believe it.
She actually went to one of the gates and used her head and lifted the latch.
Then she closed fricken thing.
Awesome.

Now all gates are secure.

See, if she were a cat she wouldn't have to open and close her own doors - that's what she'd get you for.

Speaking of cats.
They love this pup, I think.

Is the hissing sound (back hair raised up) a bad thing?

They'll get over it. Cats fear change, but the good news is that they're stupid and have short attention spans, so after a couple days they think that's the way it's always been.

We spent a lot of money putting up a 5 foot fence to keep our yellow lab in the yard. As I was standing in the front yard, writing the check for the fence builders, the lab ran by. She'd jumped it.

Oh no. Did you have to put barb wire on top of fence? We had two yellow labs a long while back (a brother and sister). I'm a dog lover but I did not care at all for these dogs. Talk about hard headed and destructive.

No, we resigned ourselves to the fact that she was an explorer. We would hook her up on a chain when she went out for potty breaks (she'd ask in when she was ready to come back in) and would let her run in the backyard unchained when she was supervised. We kind of hoped she'd finally slow down enough (and maybe fatten up enough) not to jump, but she was a beautiful slim type of lab; a pup all of her life. Once on the loose, she was not eager to come back when called. There was exploring to do! A couple of years ago, we tried a shock collar on her - it took exactly 2 zaps and she never ran loose again, nor needed the collar. (I'm still sorry we did that to her)

She was never destructive, and she was extremely smart - very good at problem solving. I think that dogs that misbehave and are destructive are generally dogs who are bored. Best dog ever (but dont let my rattie hear me say that.)

Well then these dogs were extremely bored.
